Honors College/Top Scholars Class of 2024

Good luck to those anxiously waiting for TS notifications. I wanted to share that there is no direct relationship between being invited to a dinner and being invited to TS interview weekend. So dont panic if your child wasn’t invited yo a dinner. My dd was not invited to a dinner and is a TS.

Invitations to TS weekend are also less correlated to test scores than essays and achievements. During the weekend they discussed how many perfect scorers were not selected bc TS selection is holistic, not stat-based.

During the class of 2017 discussions, there were kids accepted to Stanford and Harvard not selected as TS. But there were multiple kids from the weekend who ended up being accepted to tippy to schools. CC is just a small percentage of applicants.

Fwiw, my dd loves USC. Good luck!

I’m betting admissions just sends a generic email about making sure they have the best scores a few weeks after the deadline. I’m pretty sure my daughter received the same type of email after the EA deadline.

Sounds like the test score email relates to updating files for March merit $ (we received it also, OOS).

Applied to Honors college, have not heard. Did get the “at least x$” merit with acceptance.

Anyone know when the next wave of Honors acceptances will be going out?

And Top Scholars is the tippy top of Honors, right?

sunnyschool - my son is in the same boat - applied OOS - applied to HC (not accepted in the first wave) - got the “at least X merit aid” as part of the admissions package.

I agree on the test scores verification - it is hard to read that and knowing final merit and HC is pending and not have a feeling of “is this really your best score?” and interpret as an omen of doom… but I don’t think it is an omen.

@sunnyschool my friend’s daughter was accepted in the second wave last year. She received her acceptance in mid February.

@HesNot I was glad for the verification email because son did get +1 on ACT in December, and we were hoping they would see it (and they did upload it promptly once we sent it). Hoping that helps his “at least” merit and maybe tips it into the “in state tuition” category (we can hope!). Sounds like there are a lot of Honors admits with strong scores, but I bet many will get into other schools and have decisions to make.

My son has just named a top scholar in USC. We are so excited.

@scmoms Congratulations! How was he notified?

We got an email and checked the portal.

At least some OOS Top Scholar emails/portal updates have gone out.

Nothing for my S.

How many OOS students have received invites and does anyone mind sharing stats and info?

My son is OOS and was accepted to honors in the early round. We did not hear anything as of yet.

I would say my essays were very good.
Hope this is informative! I’m very excited to be selected and attending the weekend!!

Yes @twinmommy my D20 was invited to Top Scholars. She was in the first wave of Honors and has a 3.9uw with 35 ACT, rank 2/300ish, Full IB diploma. She thought she had withdrawn her app over winter break as she was accepted to her ED college. I’m not sure if her email to the AO didn’t update her file or they sent the info anyway.

I received an email to check my portal and the invitation was there!

What time did emails go out? Thanks!

My son is OOS from MD. Accepted to Honors in the early round with in-state tuition. We also have not received an e-mail yet. Still hopeful…
