Has anyone been notified about Honors College yet? My daughter applied to Honors and the website reflects that, but she has not heard anything yet.

My D was notified that she was accepted into UHP & IHP a while ago. I’m not home so I can’t check the dates right now, but I think she got the letter about 4 weeks after applying.

I checked an older thread here: She submitted her Honors app on November 8th; her letter was dated November 30th, but wasn’t postmarked until December 10th.

NJmom, we did not receive a letter about honors but were pretty sure my son qualified, so we called. Seems he was admitted, so give them a call and check!!!They are very nice and helpful at UA.

NJmom…

When did your child apply to honors?

Check the mybama email (Crimson email - icon on upper right of mybama). There might be an accceptance notification there.

If it’s been awhile, call Jami Gates (have the CWID #) and have her check.

That is where we called thanks to mom2collegekids!

i talked to my area rep yesterday and he said that they are a little slow at getting the letters out.

A little slow! LOL very slow…

Honors should just send emails and be done with it!

I think Bama is completely covered up in apps over there - including honors college apps. The school had expected an increase in applicants this year, but the football situation has caused an increase that they had not anticipated.

I would not be surprised if Bama ends up having to reject 50% of its applicants. They can’t really accept much more than about 12,000 kids. Last year, it rejected about 40% of applicants.

Feb 1st is the priority deadline for school applications. After that, kids can still apply, but those with more average stats might get rejected.

An admissions rep told me that as the application season goes on, the stats req’t rises. Therefore, those with borderline stats always need to apply early.

Hello Everyone,

OK…just called and although Jami was not in the office, another nice person helped me. My daughter has been accepted into the Honors College. YEA! He said the letters were just revised and will be sent out shortly. Thanks everyone!

I received a confirmation email December 1, saying that I would be notified by mail within 3 weeks. I called two weeks and they said that they were sure I would be accepted because of my test scores. After still not hearing any news, I sent an email and this time was answered with :

"I apologize for the delay. We have received your application, but a decision has not yet been made. Considering your test scores, I have no doubt that you will be accepted, it is only a matter of a few weeks or so before your application is reviewed. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

So now I have to wait a few more weeks before they even look at my application, let alone notify me. It’s very discouraging.

The message you received is probably a form response. You may have to wait a couple more weeks for an actual letter, but you will get in based on your stats. If you haven’t done so already, call Jami Gates at the number above and have your CWID ready so she can check your application status.

Hi,

Sorry that you haven’t gotten a formal response. Please call Jami Gates (have your child’s CWID #) and have Jami check. If Jami isn’t there, ask whoever answers the phone if they can check.

Son received formal acceptance letter today

^^

Congrats!

Glad to hear that the letters are FINALLY going out!!

:)

Just received an email saying I have been accepted and will be receiving a formal letter soon. Weird timing!

Momw2k,

I am almost 100 per cent certain that UA actually had an acceptance rate of less than 60 per cent this last fall. The 60 per cent figure you cited was for Fall 2008. So you’re point about UA having to be more selective this Fall is even more important for folks to consider. I am confident that the selectivity you cited was even greater given the larger number of applications received for Fall of 2009 vs. Fall of 2008. Furthermore, the increase in the size of the freshman class in Fall 2009 was much less than that for the previous Fall semester. UA has yet to list the official admissions stats for this most recent Fall, but I predict when they do, the acceptance rate that is released will show that only around 56 to 58 per cent of applicants were accepted for Fall of 2009.

That makes sense because the apps keep going up, but they can’t keep admitting more students.

The application “priority date” is Feb 1st. Bama will accept apps after that, but I imagine that admissions will be tougher at that point, if they aren’t already. Borderline students need to get their apps in this weekend.

I can’t figure out how UA can fit all of these students into the current campus! Do almost all of the students move off campus after their first year? With the requirement that all freshman live on campus, are there really enough dorms to allow anyone but freshman on campus? I spent almost my entire time at UA on campus, which had a great impact on my ability to stay focused and finish on time.

I have never heard of anyone at UA not getting housing as long as they apply on time.

Bama keeps building more dorms to help with need.

Many kids do move off-campus after the first year to some of the nearby off-campus apts. Some move into their Frat/sorority houses.

About 400+ kids have some kind of NM scholarship - which includes housing, so many/most of them stay on campus for all 4 years. Other upperclassmen also stay on campus for convenience, etc. The Super Suites res halls really do eliminate the need for many to move off campus, unless cheaper housing is desired.

Have you visited the campus lately? Seriously, the campus has changed a LOT between our first campus visit (early 2006) and now.

In the past 6 or so years, at least 40 new buildings have gone up - many of them were for additional housing.

I received my honors college acceptance letter today in the mail - about time.
