Our D got a 2nd duplicate ‘welcome to honors’ letter, etc recently but still no information on scholarships. She applied in Oct, was accepted 1st of Nov and got her first honors letter shortly after. She tried a mass phone call/email campaign for more info but got only a few general replies. Never got a return call from leaving Ms. Gates messages, or from her area rep. She was told Ms. Gates was not in the three occasions she called and got a live person. The scholarship dept keeps saying ‘check our site for more info’ or wait until mid-March.

I hope you have better luck than we’ve had. Not sure what is going on there but unfortunately my D is very frustrated at this point…says she worries what it would be like at Alabama if it is this much trouble to deal with them now. That does not seem to be the case for everyone. Maybe she has just been very unlucky? She is thinking maybe Alabama is not interested in her. (Sounds like that relationship book/movie out not too long ago!)

Congrats on the CBH Montegut! They are obviously very interested in your son.

Critter…

This is soooo unusual. If I knew your D’s name (you could pm it to me), I will look into this.

Was your area rep able to find out anything?

Last year a similar issue arose for DD. It was because she was on the “waitlist” for CBHP.

We called and they saw the issue…her app went directly to CPH before it was processed into the University Honors Program.

We only found out after we tried to register for a Honors Session of Bama Bound. It was all handeled swiftly.

It seems that many of the CPH & UF applications are handled “old school” Many people reading etc…

Critter; Bama by far was the easiest school we worked with! I hope it works out!!

And for those of you on the waitlist do speak with Dean Sharpe, DD ended up in the Emerging Scholar program which we didn’t know about until we spoke with Dean Sharpe at Bama Bound. In hindsight it may be a better match for DD as she is a bit unclear on major!

Critter…

a good time to get ahold of Jami Gates is around 9 am local time.

I had the same concern as omama. We got an email that the CBHP app was received, but never anything from honors. I called because I was ready to register for Bama Bound and wanted to see when we could do housing.

I found that using the directory menu on the website gets me a better number than just going through the main line. But there will still be busy times, I’m sure, especially when there’s a big event going on, like Capstone, CHampionship celebration, and probably during the UFE and CBHP weekends, as the people you’ll need to talk to are going to be busy with those events.

mom2collegekids…

My D tried the email address that you sent by pm and guess what? She got a response the very next day! It was actually a message on the answering machine and then an email to D, verifying the scholarship. It wasn’t from the person she sent the email to, but Ms. Rogers- the person she had contacted originally. (She was the one that first told D that she would not hear anything until mid-March.)

We still don’t know for sure what happened with the mix up, but on one email from the honors college D noticed that they had the wrong zip code. It is ok now, but she thought the original scholarship info might not have reached her because of that mistake? Like you said, it seemed like the scholarship office was assuming we had that info already.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your suggestions and encouragement. Ironically, in the process of waiting to clear this up, D heard about an alumni scholarship at her in state safety and then another large scholarship at a school that said she wan’t admitted yet ? (This is the one she applied to when she got nervous about Alabama.) She wanted to know how that was even possible! And then she got an early admit at another university that she didn’t even know admitted early (of course, no financial information yet)…so she had an exciting week or so.

I was worried that she had totally given up on Alabama, but now that the scholarship issue has been straightened out, she is as enthusiastic as ever.

And mom2…we were so sorry to hear about your friends and what went on up in your neck of the woods recently. We hope that the healing process is well underway with the passage of time.

Thanks again for everything. You are an amazing resource for prospective UA families and it is much appreciated!
