We just found out - D has been accepted into the Honors College. 36 ACT, 4.1 unweighted GPA.

Can you have a 4.1 unweighted GPA? I thought unweighted meant out of 4.0.

^ Not necessarily. Each school has it’s own grading system, some might have it out of 5.0 instead of 4.0

Yeah, it’s weird. Our high school is definitely unweighted (no extra weight for any honors or AP courses, for example), but the highest grade is an A+, which I believe is something like a 4.3. An A is a 4.0.

If apply for the honors college and don’t get in but you have good enough stats to get in regular, are you admitted? I’m a junior and starting to look and starting to get real with myself. I can’t get into an Ivy but I’m pretty sure I’ll get into UVM normal at least.

No one applies for the honors college. The admissions staff accepts some people. If you are a good student you should be accepted at UVM. It is one of the more expensive OOS public universities, so bear that in mind. Two thirds of the students are OOS. The school appears to be improving in quality, but one of its strengths is the charm of the location.

I got into the honors college with a 3.4 UW GPA (rigorous curriculum) and a 2190 (1470/1600) SAT. You should be fine!

thanks, i got in!!

Do you know if you’re going to go here? I got in too, I still have all my other schools to hear back from but the Honors College looks like a really good option.

By the way:
GPA: 3.9 (I don’t know if its weighted or not, its just what my guidance counselor gave me)
SAT: 2120

Got into the honors college, GPA 3.5 and SAT 2200. Not sure if I’ll go due to cost compared to in state school, though…Guess we’ll have to wait and see what FAid is like.

i’m going to the accepted students day on Feb 15, and i guess i’ll see from that if i might go. they gave me a really great merit scholarship, but I’ve also gotten into Boston College and Villanova, which are a bit better academically. it’s all up in the air right now!

UVM wouldn most likely not consider that a 4.1 GPA though. Colleges reconvert everything to a 4.0 scale. At many schools an A+ is still a 4.0 in effect making that 4.33 for an A+ a “weighted” grade.

I got in but I’m out of state so I highly doubt I’ll be going. Way too expensive.

UVM. The Public School with the Private School Price Tag. (minus the grant money)!
