Honors College

Do people who meet the minimum weighted 4.0 UF, 2070/33 automatically get accepted? Or is there a competitive process in which only a few get in?

And how is the program? What are the differences?

Thanks.

It is not guaranteed, but I think about 30-40% of the applicants get in. If you meet the requirements, then you get mailed the application after you are accepted.

I think the program is not too big or renowned. You get optional access to the Hume Dorms and a few competitive scholarships. There are a few perks like class registration priority and stuff, but I think there are some requirements to stay in the program like community service that may be annoying.

If you do not get in, do not worry about it.

^^^^^^^ sorry but i call bull… i am in the honors program and, especially for harder majors, it is awesome. first off, if you meet the req’s you are in. if you dont you are not unless you apply laterly. i did the latter. about 50% of people who do that get in. that depands almost entirely on your school involvement here at UF. if you meet the 3.5 minimum goa that is. why is it helpful? well the classes available to you! example, im an engineering major, i have to take ALOT of calc (duh) and science (double duh) but these are HUGE classes. my calc 1 lecture had 650 ppl in it! on the other hand calc 1 in honors is capped at 25…you get more face time with the profs, the grades are generally higher, and you have more of an ability to play with your schedule (honors sections are mostly not available to others) also, it looks good on a resume and you get access to honors advising!

Are you sure that if you meet the requirements, your in? I’m at a 2080 (2070 min) and a 4.2 UF GPA (4.0 min) but my class rank is pretty high with just in the top 10%.

So basically, if there is a process and they don’t admit everyone, I probably won’t get in.

Not that its a big deal, but still.

yeah im sure man- i know people with worse stats that still got in…AND even if you dont- you can still go the lateral admissions way (like me) all you have to have is 3.5 gpa at uf, some extracurriculars and ok essays…they accept 50% of pple who apply

I agree with Engineerjw. I’m a senior, and I have national merit which is the only way to be auto-qualified into honors (I didn’t even apply). By and large, if you meet the requirements, you’ll get in. Basically you just need the 1400 SAT. I think some people don’t get in.

Mostly, honors is absolutely worthless unless you want to live in Hume. Being in honors and graduating with honors are separate things, so it isn’t a real resume builder. Unless you really wanna take honors sections of things (Why…?) there’s no other advantage. The honors sections are only really intro classes anyway, so them being smaller just means you have to show up 100% of the time, but who the f is gonna have their calc 1 professor write a letter of rec?
