Any feedback on the HC experience at C of C? My son is applying and I'm wondering about the real advantages. It looks great on the website but it will be nice to hear about the experience first hand.

My S is a freshman honors student. he has been there about 8 weeks, so may be a little early to tell. But so far, these are the things he has told me. He loves his dorm, he is Buist, which is the freshman side of rivers dorm, Rutledge is the upper class man side. He likes being in a dorm with all freshman. Says everyone is outgoing and looking to meet others. People are fairly studious. There is a common room that some work gets done in. They did just buy a big screen tv for that room as well, which is nice for the kids to get together and relax.

He is a business major, and is within the honors business program. He has his own adviser already, and some point, I think gets assigned a mentor. Honors students after the first semester, get to sign up for classes early THis is BIG. b/c the school is so large, classes fill quickly. So to be able to get into what you want can be tricky.

There are a bunch of mixers, which he said were awkward at first, but I think he knows everyone in his dorm now. I don’t think the other dorms can say that. The second floor is all boys, 3rd, ant 4th floors are both all girls. So as I said before, they are looking for smart boys.

He likes his classes. He is in honors business ethics, honors academic writing, calculus, and Beyond George St. (1 credit seminar) and Religion and popular culture. (which is not honors). Large class, great teacher. Total or 15 credits, will take 16 next semester.

Let me know if you have any other questiones.

Thanks for the feedback. My son is scheduling an Honors College visit next month and we look forward to seeing the campus and talking to some of the students.

Most colleges tout their Honors programs, but it is difficult to identify which programs truly add to the overall experience and which ones are marketing tools designed to bring in more applicants.
