I just got accepted into Michigan State earlier this week, and was wondering of my chances of getting into the Honors College. I know that if you have a 30 on the ACT and are in the top 5% of your class that you're automatically accepted, but that they also screen candidates that are close to that criteria. I got a 29 on the ACT, and am not in the top 5% of my class. However, I go to one of the best public schools in Ohio and even in the country, so it is pretty hard to be in the top 5%. I have a 4.30 weighted GPA, have taken 4 AP's so far and am currently taking 5, and I have been involved in many extracurricular's, particularly baseball. Just wanted to know what my chances would be of getting in, and if it would be worth taking the ACT again to try to get a 30. Thanks!

I’d read this:

[Honors College Admission](http://honorscollege.msu.edu/admissions/index.html)

FWIW, I was not invited into the HC with a 33 ACT and a top 10% ranking… and that was 5 years ago. However, I also didn’t really push the issue. Now that I’ve graduated from MSU, I can tell you that I don’t think being in the HC would’ve made a lick of difference. In fact, some of my friends in the HC think of it as a nuisance rather than helpful (though the scholarships can be nice). I still managed to have a great experience, graduate with a 3.8+ GPA with research and internships, and got into every grad program I applied. Just sayin’ that it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get in. I can still write “Graduated with Honors” on my resume ;)

Best of luck :)

When did u apply and how long did it take to receive the decision after all documents were turned in ?

They received all my documents on 10/16, and I got the decision on 10/22.

Did u get any sort of scholarships??

No not yet.

So when do the scholarship decisions come out ???

Just as a data point, 2 yrs ago my son got invited to the honors college with a 32 ACT, 4.3 weighted (3.9 unweighted), top 15% of class.
