Honors College?

It says on the UMass website that there are 3 criteria in order to be admitted into the honors college,

  1. 3.7 Weighted GPA
  2. 1300 on M+CR
  3. Top 10% of class
My weighted GPA is a 4.1, with only honors courses taken as well as AP Chemistry, AP Bio, and AP BC Calculus. My M+CR score is a 1400, with 750 on math and 650 on critical reading. My school does not rank its students in the graduating class. I am in-state.

My question is this, even though I do have all of the “required” stats, along with good letters of recommendation, would there be a good chance at admittance? My major would be Finance.

Hello,
I am a Freshman in CHC and your stats look pretty good. From what I understand, the minimum weighted GPA is now 4.1 so I would suggest trying to get that up a little bit. My high school did not rank either so that is not a problem. I think you have a very good chance of being accepted. Good luck!

@ghhghghhghg Do you have any info on if the minimum SAT scores have changed?

In Fall 2015, the median combined SAT (M+CR) was 1359 and the median weighted GPA was 4.28.

@foobar1 For the honors college or regular UMass?

Honors College.

“Commonwealth Honors College will welcome a slightly smaller entering class of 650, compared to 706 in 2014. Their average SAT score is 1359 and their high school GPA increased to 4.28.”

@foobar1 Interesting, thank you. So would an SAT score of 1400 and a GPA of 4.05-4.1 put me in the ballpark?

Just to add some more info: My daughter is a freshman at Isenberg (majoring in finance) and in the CHC. She had a GPA of about 4.1w and an SAT score of 2000 (CR+M 1330) and class rank of 12/225. She was admitted EA.

Your stats sound like you have a really good shot at getting admitted. Good luck!!
