If you have at least a 1400 SAT, you could get a partial scholarship.

I got accepted into the honors college. However, I didn’t receive any information about the college… should I be worried? It just mentioned in the letter they sent me that I am eligible for the honors college. Does that mean I’m in?

Yes, congrats!

You’re in. In the next week or so (at least that’s all the longer it took for me) you’ll get a packet about the honors college.

My D was accepted into Honors College with 1380 SAT (760 M, 620 CR). Even so, is 1400 SAT the likely cutoff for partial merit scholarship? If so, do you think she can still re-take Dec SAT to try and improve CR score and still have time for a chance at merit scholarship even though they would have already reviewed her application for scholarship once by then?

Since we haven’t had any posts of scholarships awarded yet, it is hard to say what the cut-off score is for merit money. Don’t know if they will take another look at your daughter’s application, I would just call them and ask.

@poiuytre, I think the Dec SAT will be too late. In my acceptance letter, it said I’d receive scholarship information in a couple of weeks… sooo that’s way before December

I’m assuming that since my letter did not even mention the honors college I got rejected from it…great…

Motion12345–If a class is offered through the honors college that you want to take, you may request permission to take the class. Pitt’s honors college isn’t like many of the others where your core curriculum is all honors. Certain professors offer honors sections. The honors sections might explore the topic more indepth. You can probably find a list of honors sections offered this semester by looking around the Pitt site. It will give you a better idea of what is offered.

I know that, but I just wanted to get into it now so I wouldn’t have to worry about that kinda stuff later because they give priority to honors college students for those classes.

Received the acceptance letter - didn’t make it into Honors College - really bummed. My SATs are in the 1500 range (out of 1600) 2200s (out of 2400). Does anyone know if not being admitted to the Honors Program disqualify me for any merit-based scholarship?

arjgn, your scores are well within the range (at the high end) for the Honors College. Your acceptance letter didn’t mention it at all? Maybe it’s just an oversight. I would recommend waiting about two weeks to allow time for additional letters from Pitt to arrive. Then, if you get nothing, give the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid a call. Those are the people who give out the scholarship money anyway, not the Honors College. Best of luck!

Thanks, Lurkness…it could possibly be my GPA that was the issue? It was low compared with others who have been accepted. I’m from out of state and it’s possible that they don’t consider the rigor of the courseload? I don’t know. I’ll wait and see. I guess I can have my GC call. Thanks for the suggestion…

What was your class rank?

Our HS doesn’t rank, nor weight GPA. They also calculate GPA with core courses.

I had similar stats to yours last year (looked up your gpa on your stats profile) and I made it into Honors College and merit money with no problems. My high school also did not rank or weight GPA. I haven’t seen your application obviously so I can’t tell what might have been the reason you didn’t get Honors.

Did you submit an essay? What about recs?

What was your GPA? I still haven’t seen you mention it so I assume that was the issue

If you have the numbers, I would call the OAFA and ask about it. I think it is entirely possible that you may have been accidentally overlooked. It can’t hurt to ask.

Good suggestion. I know that last year some kids ended up with merit money after they questioned why they hadn’t received any at first. Mistakes do happen.

Arjgn, how do you know you weren’t offered the honors college? The letter usually follows the acceptance by a week or two. Are other people’s acceptance letters mentioning the honors college? I’m not sure how Pitt is handling this year.

On arjgn’s stats profile the gpa is 3.73.

Also, if you’re assuming that you aren’t into Honors because it wasn’t mentioned anywhere on your acceptance letter, it could be just a mistake. Who knows, maybe you’ll get a packet later saying you’re in honors.
