This topic is coming up in Village Housing and I thought it best to start a thread just for Honors college.
From the Auburn site:
"Entering freshmen and currently enrolled Auburn students who demonstrate the potential for outstanding academic achievement are eligible for admission in the University Honors College. Minimum requirements for admission are 1) a high school grade point average of 3.5 and 2) an ACT score of 29 or an SAT score of 1280. Selection of incoming freshmen is based on GPA, ACT/SAT scores, and evidence of the candidate’s activities and leadership.

Invitations to apply to the College will be sent to all students who meet the Honors minimum requirements and who have been accepted by Auburn University prior to December 1. If you meet the minimum requirements but have not received an invitation to apply to the Honors College by the end of December, please contact the University Honors College Office at 334-844-5860"

What this means to me is that everyone wiith the above stats receives an invitation, but after filling out the application is then considered and either accepted or not accepted for Honors College.

Does anyone know when they actually advise applicants if they are accepted?

Would love for someone who has been there to weigh in on this.

Before we commit to a large state school, have to feel fairly confident that son will be admitted to honors.

Finding that lots of state schools are converting the “weighted” GPA to a “core GPA”, which falls below the honors requirement, and thereby not automatically admitting students to the Honors College even though National Merit Semifinalists, high ACT/SAT.

Hoping this is not the case with Auburn, or even Bama or Mississippi State, as those also promise “automatic honors admission”. Would be really upsetting to submit nonrefundable deposits to get housing at these state schools, only to find out you’ll be denied honors admission.

montegut - my “understanding” with Auburn is that they take the GPA “as is” … IF it it based on a 4.0 scale. From what I’ve read/heard…if a basic class (not AP, not honors, etc) receives a 4.0 for an A - then that is considered a 4.0 scale.

I don’t know what Jesuit does - but it fits for our school - only honors/GT/AP/pre-AP classes have the possibility of added weights.

Maybe because we were overseas for so long, but DS doesn’t seem to care about the Honors College thing. To him - the simple thought of being in an “honors” English class (not his fav - great writer but HATES, HATES, HATES to analyze, dissect, evaluate, etc literature) is enough to turn him off. But he just doesn’t “get” the other advantages…possible $$$$$, special dorms, priority registration, etc. ggggrrr…

Meanwhile…only 7 more days till I’m in New Orleans and can get my daily fill of Bud’s Broiler!!! It takes so little to make me happy…a #4 with hickory sauce and cheese, please!!!

parent56^^With the Presidential Scholarship, you are automatically accepted into the Honors College.

Montegut^^^If your son is named a NMF, he will be automatically accepted into the honors college…Actually, with his improved SAT, he should receive the Presidential Scholarship based on that alone.

Academic Presidential Scholars receive non-resident tuition, currently valued at $77,808 over four years ($19,452 per year); a $1,500 technology allowance in the first fall semester; and the Auburn Academic Guarantee. The Auburn Academic Guarantee includes automatic admission to the Honors College and an enrichment experience valued at $4,000 one semester after the second year.

thanks navarre, he got the presidential scholarship. (instate) but got worried there for a second, that we had missed an app or yet another essay LOL

I called today about the honors college, and it seems that a letter will be going out, inviting you to apply.

If you don’t receive a letter by mid December, call the honors office.

They are extremely helpful there, and super nice people. Was on the phone with Auburn most of the day today with questions, and I must say, I was so impressed with the extra mile the staff went through to help me.

Good luck to all with their apps and scholarships!

I was under the impression that there was no additional application needed for honors college…Do I need to fill one out if I received Presidential (Out of state)?

My son was in the same situation as you, last year (oos Presidential Scholar). The admission to Honors College is automatic- no application. However, they’ll send you an acceptance form which you have to return by the end of January in order to secure your spot. I think they also asked for a resume to be sent in at the same time. Hope this helps.

DS got the letter of invite for the Honors College today. Just a simple form to fill out. If we’re missing some major essay - someone please let me know!!!

Deadline in Jan 8. And the form we have is basically - scores, GPA/rank, and activities. I don’t really see anything that’s different from the regular application. No recommendations mentioned.

That’s why I asked if we were missing something!!

If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take for you to get that letter after you received your acceptance in the mail? My daughter received her formal acceptance last Thursday. Today she got a letter from the College of Math & Science about her being eligible for scholarships and to apply. Maybe the honors college one is on the way… Hope so. :)

Sorry, I meant the letter for the honors college. My daughter already got her acceptance letter last week, so I was wondering how long it takes for the honors letter to follow in the mail.
