Honors Courses

Hi,
My school offers 2 flavors of Calc III. One is called Calculus III and the other one is called Honors Multivariable Calculus both are 4 credits. Is there any benefit to me taking the Honors version? It seems like the Honors versions are more geared for the math major types but I'm taking calc III late in my engineering career and have a bit of familiarity with the material (I'm a 2nd semester junior so I've encountered some Calc III material in my course work already.)

So are there any benefits from taking the Honors version of a class? Other than being able to beat my chest about my l33t math skills?

(I'm a good math student I got an A+ in Calc II, the only reason I'm taking Calc III so late is because I had to take DiffEq, LinAlg, and decided to take prob/stats last semester)

All honors courses demand more from the student. Calc 3 is the same thing as multivariable calculus.

but is there any advantage to taking an honors course over a regular course?

Depends on your major. Probably only useful if you are a math major.

I took honors Chem as a ChemE since it was "recommended". It helped with my chem requirements, but it didn't really help with my engineering requirements. If it's not recommended for your major I wouldn't risk getting a lower grade in a better class, because when it is all said and done the GPA and the degree obtained are all that really matters.

No, not really. Most schools do not offer a Calc III "Honors" so employers typically won't be expecting that course on your transcript. Calc III will be fine.

Honors math courses are usually much more proof-based with less application. As Japher said, only useful for math majors, really.
