Anyone attend either of these sessions at PITT? My D signed up for both days in April. But in reviewing the session topics, it appears that these visits are geared toward the student that still needs to decide where to attend. My D has already made her decision to attend Pitt and has send in the initial deposit and registered for Pittstart in early June, so we don't really need a sales pitch. We visited Pitt in the fall, and again in early March for a guaranteed med school interview, so we've done a lot of exploring already. Are those resources committed to a two night stay in a hotel and a 4 hour drive (ie, $$) better spent elsewhere?

Personally, if she were my kid, I'd be using that money and time for a little vacation instead. :)

I find the accepted students events tiresome, redundant, and generally mob-scenes. We're only doing them because my son hasn't made up his mind.

I agree. It will probably be the same video, t-shirt etc. The school may look and feel a little different in the Spring with more kids out & about, but that's about it.

I'm forcing my kid to take one last look at Pitt at the Admitted Students day this weekend. It won't cost anything since we're local, and I want my kid to be absolutely, positively sure....It finally came down to Pitt and SUNY, as other schools were slowly rejected over the last few months for various reasons. Last weekend we visited Buffalo and my kid decided on SUNY Buffalo Honors College (pharmacy guarantee and great $ pkg). Before I send the checks, I want my kid to take one long, last look at Pitt since it's been a long time since our last Pitt visit and Pitt is such a great school. Besides, I can bring my next kid along to look at Pitt too...since in two years I get to do this all over again. Sigh.

It's up to you, but we are going even though my daughter made up her mind in November to go to Pitt. We visited in October before she was accepted, then went to a guaranteed grad school meeting in Feb. She wanted to go to an Honors Day, but couldn't make either of those days, so we are going to an Accepted Day. She will be the only one, maybe two, from her school to go there so we are trying to get more and more comfortable with the school and surrounding area. We always seem to find out more information then the last time we were there or can ask new questions that we have come up with. We only live about 2 hours away so that isn't bad for being OOS. We don't have to stay overnight so it's less of an expense for us.

We're going in April although my daughter has also decided on Pitt. I think it's important to become acquainted with the school and the surroundings as much as possible - especially since we're 5-6 hours away by car. Between Honors Day/Accepted Students Day and Pittstart, D should feel comfortable when classes begin.... (I hope!) And any questions that come up after April's visit should be answered before or at Pittstart....

When we attended Honors Day a couple of years ago, it was a really good program that ran from 9am to 5pm. Here's what it included:
1. Registration and refreshments (very nice, btw)
2. Honors College Presentation (1 hr)
3. One of the following (1 hr): Honors College Opportunity Fair, Study Abroad Presention, or Honors College Student Panel
4. Lunch (university catered, white table cloths, very nice)
5. Professional School Presentations (1 hr): Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Business Administration ~OR~ campus walking tour, Discover Pittsburgh Bus Tour
6. Select from One of the Following (1 hour): "Pitt is It for Me! What Next" (presentation for kids who have decided to come), ~OR~ Upper-level Division School Visits (Health and Rehab Sciences, Education, Social Work, Information Sciences)
7. Campus Tour and Honors College Tour (two times, 1 hour each)

Also, there were displays set up for Honors College publication and honors housing, where you could pick up literature and ask questions.

I though it was well worth it.

Thanks, lkf...Your description of Honors Day is just the kind of event worth attending! Hope it's as rewarding this year.... Pitt has to keep the students' interest in the HC and make the day memorable....

are there any more honors days at pitt?
