Honor's Day Vs. Admitted Student Day

My son is admitted for the Fall. He is accepted into the Honor's College, as well. He has not been to visit yet. There are 2 days to visit for Honor's Day. He can't go to the first date and the second date is in April which seems late to visit to me. There are other dates available for Admitted Student days that we can attend. Is there a big difference in these two type sessions? I know that he can visit the Honor's floor on a Friday afternoon. I don't know if there is much difference. I want him to have a positive experience, so that he can compare the different colleges fairly. Thanks for any advice.

There really is not that much difference. If I recall correctly, on Honor’s Day, you get to hear a speech by the dean, and some of the displays are geared a bit more towards honors types of things (i.e. pre-med, engineering and the like) However, most of the Pathfinders who take you on the tours are not themselves in the Honors college, nor did we get to visit the Forbes Hall honors dorm, which was the main thing we wanted to see when D1 and I went that day :frowning: Also, the campus tours were the same as those on any regular campus visit.

For all practical purposes, I do not think there is a significant difference.

We attended only the Honors day, so I can’t tell you what the difference is. I agree with Quiet that most of the Pathfinders (student reps) are not in the Honors College, but I do remember that there was a panel discussion, and all of those kids WERE part of the HC. Did your son get any scholarship money?

Yes, he received the $10,000 out of state scholarship.

I have posted this before, but we missed the honors day last year. When we visited on our own, DD made appointments to talk with professors in the two departments she was interested in. Everyone was quite welcoming and she scheduled a busy day for herself. Her brother, father, and I just kind of hung around the campus and met a family friend–and Pitt grad-- for lunch. We also went to the honors information session in the afternoon and happened to have a long chat with a kind gentleman we later learned was the honors college dean.

i was thinking the exact same thing as well. i got a full scholarship and my parents are pushing me to go but i don’t really know if i want to. i think honors day might help
