We got an invitation yesterday and since Pitt has gone from a safety to a contender we are seriously considering going to take another look.

Has anyone done this? Is it worthwhile?

Thanks.

We got an invitation yesterday and since Pitt has gone from a safety to a contender we are seriously considering going to take another look.

Has anyone done this? Is it worthwhile?

Thanks.

We had signed up last year and had an emergency so couldn’t go. An advantage of attending is that you will be surprised how many nice, bright, talented kids are considering Pitt. We attended a Pitt Start session and somehow found a bunch of kids who were accepted into honors. Pitt started out as a safety for my daughter as well, but she liked it more every time we visited campus.

I’m going. Hopefully it’s informative.

Let me add a twist to the question: Is it worth traveling 900 miles for?

We are travelling from NY for it. Figure it will help to make a decision since Pitt is in his top 3 choices.

I would travel the 900 miles only if Pitt was on my shortlist for schools. I seem to recall that the Admitted Days also gave you a chance for a visit the Honors College so you are not restricted to just the Honors Day.

We are thinking about going as well. Does anyone know if we can accommodate the Honors Day with campus visit + sitting classes + shadowing a student? We are from OOS, thus we plan to incorporate as many activities as we can.

Is the week of March 26th a spring break week at U of Pitts?

According to the academic calendar our spring break is March 7-14.

It seems as though much of the material presented is available at other sessions if you are not interested in traveling a long distance. Last year, professors were very accommodating for my daughter when we just picked a day and went. She arranged appointments with professors in two departments and sat in on a lecture. She also spent the afternoon touring one of the departments and met with a student and an additional professor. It was very informative for her and really helped her with the decision to attend Pitt.

MD Mom - who did you contact to arrange the classes and appointments? UHC Admissions or the specific dept?

As long as we are going he’d like to sit in in a Comp Sci class or two and see their facilities.

And I seem to recall that admitted students are required to attend one of the Admitted Days, is that right? Geez, that would be one 900-mile trip for Honors Day, one for Admitted Day, and one for a scholarship interview if my son is lucky enough to be invited for one. No way are we making that trip three times.

No you don’t have to attend an Admitted day. I think you are thinking of Pitt Start which is required for all incoming freshmen. You register for your classes during Pitt Start and it does pay to attend the earlier sessions (although they do keep some spots open in the more popular classes for later Pitt Start sessions).

I would just hold off until you hear yeah or nay on the Chancellor and then decide when to visit Pitt.

mtnest, thats what we are doing…waiting to see about chancellors. everything went in dec 4 so hoping to hear by end of this month, then know when to visit

DonnaMom–I looked up the e-mail address for the department chair and my daughter sent the e-mails and set up her appointments. One department chair asked if she would like to meet with the entire department–though it was a small one. We were floored.

MTnest, thanks for clearing up Admitted Day vs. Pitt Start.

MD Mom - Thanks. We did that last night.
