My DD was accepted into the Honors College. She was not too interested in the RAPs offered by the Honors College (which are full now anyway) and is kind of interested in the Focus Connection RAP offered in Van Meter in Central. So the choice is:
- try to get into the (nice, new) Honors Dorm without a RAP
- do the RAP and live in Van Meter

We have absolutely no way to evaluate these 2 choices against each other. Any help/thoughts greatly appreciated!

Honors dorm. It is closer to the center of campus. Also, in college writing, your DD will want to take an honors sections as well as an honors section of her gen ed classes if available. The oasis seminar can be good but a motivated student can navigate the education waters.

She can still take honors classes if she chooses to live elsewhere, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I don’t think she can go wrong either way. The honors dorms seem great and new, but Van Meter was also recently renovated and seems good too, especially if there is a RAP she is interested in. I would consider distance from food/ classes (although I suppose it may be hard to say at this point, especially since it isn’t the end of the world to do a little walking/ riding the bus). Also consider what type of students will be in the dorms, as the different residential areas have stereotypes (which is silly). Honors dorms probably have a good mix of serious students. Van Meter is the biggest hall though, so I doubt there will be any issues finding people. Lastly, check out the room tours online.
