I was utterly shocked today when I found out that I have not been accepted to the honors engineering program. Previously I had talked to the admission honors coordinator, admissions officer, etc. who all said i shouldn't worry about it. I even attended the Honors Colloquium. I am certain that my recommendations, essays, and transcript were not the cause, as these very same parts of my application have gotten me into several top 25 schools (even one top 5).

I would really appreciate it if any of you guys who have been admitted would post your rank and sat scores. Here's mine:

SAT: 1490
Rank: top 0.5 %
SAT II average: 780
GPA: 4.0 (UW)
AP Scholar with distinction / IB Diploma candidate
I'm also a Texas resident.

Hmmm, I wouldn't give up just yet, Paul. The FIRST round of invitees were the students with SATs of 1500 or higher...go/no-go method. Second round required a prof(s) to review the remaining applicants much closer. Recs and essays are likely the key pieces in this round. I actually spoke to one such prof last Saturday at Explore UT and he said he had just been notified that he needed to do this. Maybe he has had a chance to do this already but I kinda doubt it. They will invite up to 10% of the engineering applicants so that's a fair number of slots. The original invitees have all the way up to May 1 to accept. There's going to be some who don't accept so there will be slots open that they could fill even after that date. If you did slip by the 2nd round, I think you wouldn't have been very far off and have a good chance at a slot that may open up.

I see. Thanks a lot ColoradoKid. I actually have not received a letter, but I checked the honors website and it said "honors not offered" under my application status. So i guess I'll have to wait!

But thanks a lot. I won't give up

I thought your username looked familiar... then i remembered that you were that one guy from texas that was accepted to Stanford last December! So, like you, i'm kinda shocked you didn't get in...

My stats are similar to yours, but they accepted me into the honors engineering program at UT today.

rank: 7/535
SAT: 1490 I, 800/790/630 IIs
GPA: 4.37 weighted
AP Scholar
I also live in texas

go figure... i don't know what their admission criteria is. What are your ECs like? I bet they're good if you got into Stanford. I would honestly bet money that you're in at the next decision round... i wouldn't sweat it. best of luck to you.

Well, thanks a lot runhard05 (you have an awesome memory btw) and Coloradokid.

I just got my letter today and I've been denied for real. I'm not that sad, just shocked. But it's ok. At least now my mom won't make me go to UT and an honor spot won't be wasted. :)

Sorry to hear that, Paul...must be a killer engineering honors group. Where else have you applied that you're hopeful for?

Does anyone know the average stats of students in Honors Engineering?
