Honors for Transfer Students

Can a student that transfers graduate cum laude? Valedictorian?

I was wondering the same thing. I’ve heard of a special honor society for transfers (Tau Sigma???) but I’m really wondering if transfers (especially junior transfers) will have the same opportunities as students who have been at the school for 4 years.

Will they get the same internship/research opportunities? Will they be eligible to apply for/join the honors program? Will they be able to graduate summa cum laude?

But what worries me the most as a transfer student is whether or not my 2 years of community college will prevent me from getting into a top grad school regardless of my standardized test scores. It seems the top schools both undergraduate and graduate are somewhat appalled by former community college students.

It seems like they have this preconceived notion that if the student didn’t take all of the hardest classes at their CC (Even though some semesters the student HAD to take 100 level transferable courses in order to transfer in as a true sophomore/junior to their transfer school) then they aren’t worthy of being admitted over a student with like standardized test scores who spent all 4 of his/her years taking honors classes at a top 20 undergrad school.

also a worry of mine.

That might have been true twenty years ago, but it certainly isn’t true today. If anything, colleges prefer transfers from community colleges to transfers from other colleges.

Grad school won’t care whether you want to community college. Just earn a high GPA and do well on the admissions tests.

Yes they can but it probably depends on the school.
