I was told by the housing advisor at Spring Welcome day that Honors Housing was GUARANTEED for Honors students. However, the housing office appears to have placed me ELSEWHERE (Betsy Barbour to be exact). Guaranteed Honors housing played a key part in my decision to come to UM, and now I feel rather cheated. How can I appeal this placement and get reassigned to Honors housing (my contract was issued 7/7, but I haven't submitted it yet)?

There's quite a few threads on this, look around or search this forum.

Simply kill all former residents of 1st Fred.

tetrahedr0n, the only piece of advice that I found relevant was to go barter with the housing office. Is there some other way?

...if they don't have space, they don't have space...

Your only real option would be to switch with somebody who is in an economy triple and doesn't want it. Check the roomswap bulletin board at http://roomswap.housing.umich.edu/bb_results.cfm?bb=RoomSwap&sex_id=2 (change the 2 to a 1 to get the guys bulletin board).

If you don't return your contract, you have the option of a contract reassignment (http://roomswap.housing.umich.edu/bb_results.cfm?bb=Reassign&sex_id=2 again change 2 to 1 for male listings). I'd only suggest this option if you can find something before whenever you need to mail in your contract, because with housing being so tight it may be difficult to get another contract.

Ya, happened same to me along with others. Honors lied. Freaking horrible credibility. Never trust the words of this university is what I learned as a freshman. -.-

By the way, are we allowed to switch rooms with a person of opposite sex?

chickenlord: obviously not! Even though that rule sucks.
Cranium, I also thought SQ was guaranteed for honors kids, and I too was put in something different (Fletcher).

Like I said, it's not really honors' fault, blame former 1st Fred, who all decided to stay in honors housing and screwed the freshmen.
