I know for freshman year, students in the Honors Program must stay in the International Village IV. I tried to look on the online portal, but is there any way freshman students can choose to live in non-Honors housing? Or should I just stay in Honors housing? I don't want to live with just Honors students because I feel like I'm going to be separated from those who aren't in the Honors Program. I also get the feeling that those in the Honors Program are primarily academically focused, and I want to experience a diversified college experience.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

There are a lot of threads on here about that. My D is in IV this year for freshman honors housing and she loves it. There is a huge diversity of students, so don’t feel boxed in. You will quickly find friends in the honors program during orientation. After your freshman year, you can live other places. But IV is brand new, big, nice, and has great food. Everyone loves living there. Don’t worry about your diversified college experience. You can find parties and you can study. You will find all types of kids all over the place. Take IV.

I’m a freshman here at NU, honors program, living in IV.

I go out and party/go to clubs/go to shows etc. almost every single weekend with my friends in IV.

You’ll get to know people in other dorms through student groups and classes, but IV is diverse enough on it’s own, really.

Stay in IV, don’t give up how amazingly nice and convenient this building is because of your pre-conceived notions of what honors kids are. You’ll quickly discover that your stereotype is completely inaccurate.

Honors students must live in IV in the mini-LLC they choose. And giving up the honors program is absolutely not worth moving out of IV because you think honors kids will be snooty and carry around calculators everywhere.

Thanks for all of the information. I’m leaning towards the IV after I’ve looking at many reviews. One last question: does the IV house all of the international students (or at least a majority of them)? I think it’d be amazing to have a roommate from Germany, for example.

No, not at all. “International Village” is just the name of the dorm. The freshmen international LLC is housed elsewhere. There may be some upperclassmen in other towers who are international (or some honors students who are), but certainly not a large collection of them.
