Hi! I was accepted EA to the CAS Honors Program! I know I am guaranteed housing for four years, and I also know that generally, honors students live in one dormitory on campus. However, if I didn’t want to live in that dorm and rather live with people not in the honors program, is that possible? Does that come later when I apply for housing? Let me know, thanks!

Hey! I’m a current freshman in the CAS Honors Program! I live in Honors housing, but you definitely don’t have to. In fact, I think less than half of the kids in the Honors Program DO live in Honors housing.
The thing is, there are a ton of benefits to Honors housing. First of all, you have guaranteed housing on Upper campus your freshman year, and Medeiros (the Honors dorm) is a great place to live. It’s not set up like a normal hallway-style residence hall; it’s more like towers. You really have to see the inside to understand it.
Medeiros is split into three separate towers (A, B, and C), and this year, A and B are girls and C is boys. It’s also not all Honors kids. for 2014-15, A is all honors girls, B is mostly not-honors girls, and C is mostly honors boys. There is no “ooh he/she isn’t honors, so we can’t hang out with them” attitude at all. That being said, being in the Honors Program, it’s really beneficial to live surrounded by some of your classmates, or other kids who know what the Honors Program is like.
On the contrary, I know plenty of people in the Honors Program who do not live in Honors housing, and they still know lots of Honors kids through their classes and events and such.
For the whole application thing, you do have to apply for Honors Housing, although almost everyone that applies gets in. The application for it is part of the Special Interest Housing section. If you’re interested, fill it out. If not, don’t. You’ll just be put in with everyone else.
Anyways, welcome to the BC family and CASHP if you decide to come!
Thank you so much! Do you still know lots of people outside of the Honors Program even though you don’t house with them? I guess that’s my concern. I like to go out and have fun, but I do know when to take work seriously.
@trose220
Oh, goodness, for sure! I know plenty of people outside of both honors housing and the honors program. You’ll meet people through clubs, other classes, your friends’ friends, etc
Sorry, @tiva_mcabby5 one more question. Is Medeiros close enough to the other houses on upper campus that you go and hang out in the other dorms with friends? Thanks you have been so so so helpful!
@trose220 All of the dorms on Upper are really close together and it’s easy to walk between them. Here’s a map of all of the main campus, and you can zoom in on the part on the left and see all of the dorms on Upper. http://www.bc.edu/content/dam/files/top/az/maps/Chestnut%20Hill%20Map_color_12_15_2014.pdf
