honors housing

Please describe what the honors housing is like at Pitt

Can’t tell you any personal experiences, but the honors housing is in Forbes Hall. It’s near the Wyndham Hotel on Forbes Avenue (towards downtown).

Hi I’m a Peer Advisor this year at Pitt.

The freshmen Honors housing is Forbes Hall. The rooms are a little bigger than Towers rooms and go 2 people per room.

The upperclassmen Honors housing is Forbes-Craig Hall, located across from the Carnegie Museum. The dorm is apartment style housing with 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen for 3 students.

Both Halls require an application to get in. More information can be found at Panther Central:

I live in forbes now and I am living in forbes-craig next year.

I really don’t think it is all that different. College students are pretty much college students. The smallish differences are:

You will not feel excluded simply because you study a lot (I am not sure if this is actually a difference since i have no other frame of reference but i feel like it is). That is not to say you will not be excluded from certain groups BUT studying will not be the reason if you are.

Everyone is pretty smart. This is cool because it makes life somewhat more interesting. If you want to seem smart though no one will be impressed so that could be a downside.

The rooms are definitely nicer

Forbes ave is super cool to live on.

A 7 min walk to the cathedral instead of like 2 min from Towers

It is smaller so you feel like you know a lot of the dorm. That also means it can get occasionally highschoolish though in my opinion so that about evens out.

I have had an overall good experience. We have a lot of fun and there was no questions I wanted to stay in honors housing. HOWEVER, it is not like an intellectual eden but no dorm here is so if you want that chill up at the UHC like i do.

Um…there are rooms in Forbes without bunk-beds…right?

All beds can be switched into bunk beds or made into normal beds.

Is there any fitness equipment in Forbes? If not where is the closest fitness gym?

I know the Towers lobby has a fitness center, I don’t think Forbes does. It’s not too far a walk though.

Forbes residents can use the fitness centers in Lothrop Hall (on Lothrop st.), Trees Hall (upper campus), the Pete (upper campus), or Bellefield Hall (past Heinz Chapel) (to make up for Forbes’ lack of workout space, it has a recreation room, i.e. a pool table in a room by the patio/roof).
