is it possible to graduate earlier than 4 years? what is the difference in costs?

sure why not....probably gotta do some classes over the summer though and the cost depends if ur instate or out of state. It's like 7,000 for 6-9 credits over the summer for OS students, dunno of instate though

will; the cost be the same as if i'd taken the 4-year path?

Tuition for OS is approx $27,500 x 4 = $110,000; need 120(+) credits for your BS

If you take 9 credits over the summer its about $7,000 x 3 summers = $21,000 and since 1 yr is 27,500...27,500-21,000 = $6500

So you'd save like what $6,500 about? assuming you've taken like 17-18 credits after your first sem fresman year and are taking 8-9 credits over the summer for 3 summers

You will probably save some. Of course everything I just babbled about up there could be completely wrong if you got scholarships, have some other financial aid, or w/e. Also tuition will most likely increase so there's sort of an error there too...but I'm saying you will probably save a little...I personally don't think it's worth it though. Why skip out of your Sr year at UMICHIGAN? lol

You could also graduate maybe 1 semester early rather than 1 year early and be done by winter semester.

6 and 7 semesters is not unheard of to graduate....but...if you want to graduate with "honors" you'll have to write an honors thesis, and that requires that you stay enrolled for 8 semesters

How fast you graduate depends on how masochistic you are, how many credits you come in with, and how willing you are to do nothing but classes that go towards graduation requirements.

I had a hella lot of credits coming in (credit for 7 APs, 4 math classes from Oakland, and 14 credits from dual enrolling at Umich). Every class I've taken so far goes towards some kind of graduation requirement. I did 18 fall term, 17 summer term, and am doing 8 of spanish in the spring term. I think if I wanted to make it my goal to graduate ASAP, I could change one or two things around in my schedule for next year and graduate after two years with an Honors math major and a physics minor. But since I'm planning on staying 4 years, getting a full physics major, and possibly getting a masters in math, I'm not rushing anything.

So it's definitely possible. Heck, my dad managed to graduate a semester early back in the 70's without the help of AP credit/dual enrollment.

Just as a suggestion, it depends on where you are with whatever language you're doing, but doing a first or second year intensive language class is generally considered the best option. You get it done quickly (6-7 weeks), and you learn it well because you have to work with it so much.

kb54010: Not if you do math or computer science =-D.

You could probably also do your honors thesis early if you're that far ahead (I know one of my friends has already gotten research offers from the physics department as a freshmen).
