My son is considering applying to the LSA program or one of the other honors programs at UM. Can anyone tell me if UM waives out of state tuition for students accepted to these programs?

If so, are there special requirements like NM Finalist, rank in class, etc... ?

Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

For the first answer: no. They offer a few LSA scholarships (honors is only LSA i believe), but you get nothing for just being in honors. The requirements for entirely merit-based LSA scholarships are pretty selective I'm thinking. Just being a NM finalist and a high rank in class doesn't do it for you. Believe me.

Yeah...ditto that. Also, you should know that one does not apply for LSA scholarships. I received one, and I didn't do anything but apply. Also, the honors program is not as "separate" as those at other big state schools, mainly because most of UM's class is pretty well qualified on its own. If you are looking for an isolated Honors program...something state university is always good..Ohio State, Michigan State, Illinois State etc.

kklicker, my D got into UM out-of-state, and was invited into the Honors program, but the cost of going there was $38,000.....
There are a few merit scholarships, mostly awarded automatically, (no separate app.)

KKLICKER, if you want your daughter to have a shot at a scholarship, be sure she applies BEFORE October. Michigan gives out most of its limited scholarships early on.
