Honors & Out of State Tuition

My son is considering applying to the Honors program at Penn State. Can anyone tell me if Penn State waives out of state tuition for students accepted to these programs?

If so, are there special requirements like NM Finalist, rank in class, etc... ?

Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't think they waive tuition, but they do give you a $2500 per year merit scholarship (whoopee!) They have an extensive application that must be done manually and submitted in order and unstapled. Check the website for Schreyer Honors College.

For what it's worth, your son could apply to (I think) the Eberly College of Science. I think it's that college that offers the full tuition scholarship. A lot of Schreyer scholars get it.

Just as a side note: when one enrolls at Schreyer, one also co-enrolls in like the liberal arts college, the business college, etc. since Schreyer itself doesn't offer any degrees. Just in case that was confusing.

If your son is interested in the sciences, he should definately apply for the Braddock Scholarship. It is a scholarship through the Eberly College of Sciences, but I think only honors kids are eligible for it. You must be majoring in one of a set number of science majors to get the scholarship, so its a little restrictive, but it gives you full tuition, room & board paid for. You must have excellents stats and essays to get this though - I think only about 10 get it each year.

Son is definitely interested in the sciences. Has shown a real interest in chemistry. Thanks for the information.
