Honors Program- Am I missing something, here?

Ok, so I keep hearing about an essay for the Honors program. Is this a separate optional essay that is specifically for the Honors Program itself? If I send an email request to be considered, will they send me the prompt of the essay?

or is everyone talking about the essays that were a part of the UMICH admissions application itself?

thx(i got in just recently, btw)

It is described as optional and recommended. The Honors invitation that is sent to most students says that 70% of those accepted into the program have submitted essays. Some students however are offered acceptance into the Honors program without even being requested to submit an essay.

get accepted to LSA

LSA sends you a pamphlet with some info on honors, and then asks you to either
2a. Send an email asking to be considered
2b. Send an email asking to be considered with an essay based on one of the three topics included in the pamphlet.

Wait for further correspondence.

I know that 70% accepted into Honors did the essay, but does anyone know the percentage of people who wrote the essay that got in? I'm just wondering what my chances are like if they sent me the pamphlet and I did do the essay.

which pamphlet is this that you're talking about? After getting accepted, i got a package/folder like thing about my acceptance.. is that the thing you're talking about, or is it separate?

It comes seperately.

Send an e-mail to honors.admissions@umich.edu and tell them that you would like to be considered for honors program. They will immediately (in a day) send you an e-mail that the essay question will be sent to you in the mail. That mail will take upto 4 weeks. Once you get the essay question just write the essay and e-mail it back to the same address.
And then cross your fingers and wait to see if you are accepted. In addition to the essay they also look at your main application. Some students get an invitation without writing the additional essay.
My daughter is in the cross your fingers stage - already submitted the essay- waiting to hear form them.
The honors program is first come first serve so sooner you do the extra essay the better off you are. Thats what they told us at campus day. I believe it is the same essay question for all students.
