Does anybody know if it is possible to be in the honors program while pursuing a BFA MT degree, or is the MT schedule to prohibitive to make it possible?

D got accepted into the Honors program, but decided not to do it after she got to school in the fall. They’re so busy with classes and rehearsals and it was extra work/classes she frankly just didn’t want to do! They said she could do MT and Honors, so you may want to contact either Vicki in the MT department or someone in the Honors program for specifics if your child is really interested in it. All the freshman performing arts majors (MT, Acting, Dance) live together on the same hall in the Honors dorm, which has nothing to do with the honors program. The MT students also get special treatment - for example, they get to register for classes before anyone else on campus every semester due to their demanding schedules. Most of them live in apartments after freshman year (which are less expensive than the dorm!).

Thanks so much for the information. We’re still in the research phase, trying to figure out the ins and outs of all the programs

Let me know if you have any questions. We had never heard of Wright State until we started researching. College coach recommended it, among others. The performing arts program as a whole is fantastic and if your child wants MT with acting emphasis, they’re really good at that. Depends on what your child wants in a school - fit is the most important thing!

When S did audition visit in November, several current MT students said they were also honors and found it to be a good fit.

Thank you all again for the information. The program looks amazing and is one we will definitely be checking out. I saw on the website that there are 4 years of dance class every day. Is the dance leveled? My D came to MT through dance and wants to continue to be challenged as a dancer.

She can definitely be challenged. The day after move in day in August they have dance placements. One of D’s friends was actually moved to a higher class after the semester started because she was a better dancer than the rest of the class, and the teachers wanted her in the right class for her needs. They also have the option to take classes with dance majors if they want more challenging classes. There are some fabulous dancers in the program even though there is a strong emphasis on acting.

Thanks, this program was not on our radar 2 weeks ago, and now is moving very close to the top.
