I can see the ‘requirements’ listed for the Program BUT Does anyone know what is asked on the application form? I cannot find an example of one anywhere?
Do you need to be ‘invited to apply’ or can anyone? If you apply eraly, how long is it before u hear back?
my daughter applied and was accepted for honors fall 2017, but had chosen to attend another college. She received a flyer in the mail letting her know she was eligible to apply to honors. She had already submitted her application for admission, but did not receive her acceptance. Honors applications opened up January 23, 2017 and closed March 1, 2017 for the fall 2017 term. The application was some basic questions, and an essay. I believe the essay was something along the lines…‘why would you be a good fit for the honors program?’ I don’t remember exactly when she found out, but it was before May 1 (decision day)
if your stats show you are eligible, you should definitely apply. The application (when open) should be on the honors website. It is a fantastic program with great benefits. We met with a student for a personal tour and also with the honors dean. We got the impression that she is really interested in what the students are doing and that they are successful at Rowan. For my D, she would have been very happy there, but with her top two choices, she really wanted to go to college out of state.
Thanks… am following up with the Program as well!!!
@College2018Hopeful
Have you applied for honors yet?
Have you heard about acceptance yet? You’ve posted so many things on here about Rowan, I’m really rooting for you to get in!
Thanks for the vote of confidence!
Yes I filled out the application on 12/29/17 … the first day I knew it was up!
The only aspect of the application that I though was a bit redundant/overkill was for me to have a Reference ESSAY created by my Teacher or Guidance.
No other College, including Princeton/Cornell/Stanford or the others in NJ REQUIRES a ‘Referrer’ (if that’s even a word) to write a full 500 word ESSAY on the student. A letter, YES, as was already done for the schools application but a 500 word Essay is a lot to ask someone who has already honored you with a letter.
I am still waiting on the Essay to make it to Rowan but I do hope I am selected as I have spent over 49 hours researching/comparing/visiting and also have been able to confirm my Service Project is acceptable to Rowan!
I agree @College2018Hopeful. The Essay requirement does seem a bit extensive?
I hope your Teacher doesn’t mind creating an Essay for you as it would probably be seen stronger than simply having Guidance sending one.
@College2018Hopeful Thanks for pointing that out about the reference essay! I hadn’t noticed that it was a 500 word requirement- that is an awful lot to ask of a teacher! I see in the essay prompt that they want you to discuss a research or service project, but I don’t see anything about projects that are “acceptable” to Rowan. Can you elaborate?
The ‘acceptable’ I was talking about was for the ‘Service Activity’ that you must do AFTER you are accepted and WHILE you are a member of the Program, not as part of the initial application. While in HS, I am already working with a Charity that aids less fortunate countries with Technology and Training and knowing that I could continue this and also that it could be used to meet my Service obligations with Rowan was important.
