Honors Program at Cleveland State University

So I am about to graduate next year and I applied and got accepted to CSU and I feel I am able to try for the honors program. I noticed the classes would be more difficult, and I would also have to take specific honors courses to graduate. It would offer me more scholarship opportunities and research and work opportunities so I do see the benefits. I have been taking college level courses at cuyahoga community college since my sophomore year and will have about 49 credits at the end of the school.

Currently my gpa is 3.8 and my ACT is only a 25.
I am thinking in engineering because I really enjoy math/science and did take an engineering class at my school freshman year that I enjoyed. I also joined ACE this year, which is a program designed to expose students to architecture construction and engineering. We get to meet with companies around the Cleveland area teaching us and working on different projects by hand and using computer software. Not sure what specific area in engineering, still trying to figure that out.

Anyone have experience in an honors program? How did you like it and would you reccomend doing it?

Sorry if this is in the wrong location I think CSU has its own forum here and couldn’t find one on honors colleges.

Thank you for the help!

Honors programs differ significantly across colleges. Your best bet is to see if anyone has specific experience with Cleveland. Barring that, to review as much as you can online http://www.csuohio.edu/honors/home or talk to some students there. Some advantages to honors are first choice in class selection and separate quiet dorms (but I didn’t look at the web site I posted).

I’m currently a freshman at CSU, although I’m not in the honors college. Having said that, the main reason I would recommend applying is for the scholarship (which covers full tuition). There are no separate honors dorm and you don’t get first dibs at class selection, since CSU has us register our fall/spring schedule at the same time.

Also make sure you at least one of these criterias in order to be considered:
30 ACT Composite Score
1950 SAT Score
Rank in the top 10% of their high school class

Oh yeah, make sure to apply for these specific scholarships for engineering majors http://www.csuohio.edu/engineering/scholarships/incoming-freshman

Your 25 ACT and 3.8 gpa puts you in the top 25% of incoming students coming to CSU. That scholarship applications aren’t that long. From personal experience, I can tell you that CSU is quite generous when it comes to awarding scholarships

Thanks so much to the both of you. And yeah I looked at that was just wondering if someone here wanted to share honors experiences throughout their college career. Anyways I’ll definitely be looking into scholarships after this finals week at Tri-C and over the break. I noticed I should be eligible for the Provosts Award with my gpa/act score from this linkhttp://www.csuohio.edu/financial-aid/scholarships-new-freshmen
5k a year is about half the tuition at CSU so that isn’t too bad if I don’t get into their honors program.

Looks like those are deactivated in that link. I guess other people already got to them.
