Honors Program Decisions not until AFTER May 1...

My D is looking at 3 smaller private schools.
School #1 is about $10,000 more on paper than the other 2 schools. We have the fin aid packet from school #1 already, not yet from #2 and #3.

Today she submitted her info/essay for consideration for the honors program at school #1. After submitting, she received a email confirming they received her stuff - in the email it said Honors Program decisions wouldn't be made until May15. Isn't that kind of late? Whether she gets accepted into the Honors Program may affect if she chooses that school or not. And don't most schools want decisions by May 1st?

Just seemed kind of late to me. While she'd love to go to this #1 school (at the moment it is her first choice), it is going to probably in the end be the most expensive by a good bit - several thousand. It's going to be very tempting to really take a hard look at the other two if they can offer her $$ and honors acceptance before May 1st.

What's typical w/honor's programs?

abasket,
I can't answer your question directly, but you may want to check out the guidelines posted her by this CC veteran about what to look for in an Honors Program. It may help you decide whether it would be worth waiting for College #1. Regardles, I would call them and say that although they are #1 on your daughters list, you need an earlier decision so she can compare the whole package offered- financial as well as academic, to the other colleges she has been accepted to .
