Honors Program/housing

It was my understanding that those who were in the top 10% of admitted freshmen were given the Academic Presidential Scholarship. If a scholarship recipient applied for the Honors Program, wouldn't he or she be considered automatically? This not only affects the course of study, but also housing possibilities. Any comments welcome...

I believe the two are separately evaluated. The scholarship would be more based on numbers. Honors Program applications have more requirements than the general application, so there are more pieces to evaluate. Nothing is really guaranteed in college admissions...

They are separately evaluated for certain. At most schools (for example Tulane), honors program automatically goes to there most qualified freshman applicants. At GWU, they want kids who 'want' to be in the honors program, not kids who were automatically placed in it because they did well on a test or whatever. Other schools (like USC) have a separate honors program application like GWU too.

The application for the Honors Program is pretty simple, two essays (maybe one), and it's pretty much based simply on the essay. Obviously GPA and SAT are not totally disregarded, but there is quite a bit of disconnect between recipients of the half tuition scholarship and members of the Honors Program.

Pretty much what I'm saying is a high SAT score (which is how a lot of people end up with the half tuition scholarship) is not going to be what gets you in the honors program. It'll definitely help you, but the essay(s) are the deal breaker.

i applied for the honors program, was not accepted, but got a half-tuition academic schoalrship. SO, definitely evaluated separately, which was frustrating in my case, but OH WELL! For the honors application, I had to write an extra essay and list all the books i had read in the past year.
