My S found out yesterday he was accepted into the Honors Program. Has anyone else heard anything about the Hunt Scholarship or Presidential Scholarship interviews? I read that in past years they sent out letters to students who submitted Hunt Essays saying they would hear about interviews soon. Has anyone received a Hunt letter saying that they received your essay? Any info about Hunt and Presidential scholarships would be helpful. Thanks.

Congratulations to your son. I have been told that the Presidential Scholar letters will be mailed Feb. 15th. I don't know anything about the Hunt scholarships.

I also received the Honors Program letter of acceptance yesterday. Does anyone know if that comes with a scholarship? I did not applied for the Hunt scholarship. Would it possible to receive an additional scholarship simply because you have been offered the Honors Program?
Thank you for any answers or insight. :)

The previous post said that Presidential Scholarship interview letters were going out on February 15. Did you get the information from the school?

My son asked and someone at the school told him that the letters would go out on the 15th.

Thanks. Has he received other scholarships? My S has received the Distinguished Scholar and Rotunda Scholar Scholarships. My son applied November 1.

No-- he hasn't even heard if he's in yet. He applied near the deadline, sometime around January 15, I think. He had a question about merit scholarships and that's when he found out about when the letters for the presidential scholarship would be mailed.

Thanks for the info and good luck to your son.

My son received his acceptance letter today. However, there was no mention in the letter of honors or scholarship awards. For those of you who received honors or scholarships, did those come with the acceptance letter or separately?

Seperately, cpq.

Thanks. There's still hope, then : )

fyi--S's presidential scholarship interview invitation arrived today. We are located in Texas. The letter was dated Feb. 13th.

cpq1xtbu,
Can I ask which program your son is interested in at SMU?

He's interested in environmental science and policy, among other things. I'm not sure what SMU's program in that area is called. I think I better do my homework before we visit : )

Oh, environmental science and policy. Do you happen to know if presidential scholarship interviews are handed out by individual schools within SMU? In other words, has perhaps the school that handles environmental policy finished deciding who it wants to invite, but perhaps the school of music has not? Or are they all handled by the dean of admissions, period? I guess you can guess what we're hoping to hear!

I'm sorry I don't know. The letter is from the "office of the president" and signed by the president. You know how the mail service is-- maybe you'll get something tomorrow. I hope so.

Would you also mind telling us about your son's statistics?
(SAT/ACT scores, extracurriculars, GPA, and class rank)

Well, congratulations to you and your son! That's very exciting. It's a very selective scholarship. Wishing him the best at the interviews!

Thanks, Simplelife!
I'm crossing my fingers for your child.
Tomi-- I'm a little leery of posting stats for privacy reasons. However, generally, I will say my son was not ranked, had a 4.0/4.0 unweighted gpa and scores for each section of the SAT and 3 SAT IIs were above the 90th percentile. He has national level awards in two different ECs and work experience.

Thanks for letting me know! I'm awaiting my own letter too!
