Honors Program Information?

Hello, My D was invited to apply to Quinnipiac's Honors Program. Does anyone have info on this or have been through/currently in the program? What dorms do they live in? Are they suites or doubles? Are the classes extra difficult (I see they have to maintain 3.3 GPA)? Do those in the program feel the sense of community the website talks about? Does everyone like the extra outings they go on? Any thoughts additional to what the website provides would be so helpful! Thanks!

My D received the invitation as well so I am interested in seeing any feedback to these questions.

Hi @Cakeisgreat, congratulations to your daughter on her acceptance to QU!

I can answer some of the questions regarding the honors program from both information given to me by the Honors Program and anecdotally from past honors students I have worked with.

For the past few years honors students get placed together on a floor in Ledges, a four to a room building for freshmen. Honors students are placed two to a room and have two non-honors roommates (this could change for this coming year but I have not heard anything to the contrary).

One of the big themes I have observed with the program is really its sense of balance and community within our community. We want our honors students to feel like they are part of the community as a whole but have an “honors family” where they can talk, discuss, celebrate, and support each other. The balance is why they are placed with two other non-honors roommates. We want honors students to have friends and connections outside of the program and again feel like they truly are a part of the whole community.

The balance is also present in terms of the academics. Classes aren’t necessarily more work per say but challenge students in different ways. Typically we see students looking for this type of challenge and they do very well. They also take non-honors classes, classes taught on the honors level (typical class with other students but with additional instruction from the professor specific to that student), and an honors class (honors level with other honors students).

Having seen some of my past students go through our program they have had very positive things to say about the program, the student driven nature, and the experience overall. I can’t speak to the outings and team building/orientation things but I would reach out to one of the members of the honors leadership board <a href=“Honors Program | Quinnipiac University”>http://www.quinnipiac.edu/academics/undergraduate-studies/honors-program/honors-leadership-board/</a>. Also, Kathy Cooke is our program director for the Honors Program http://www.quinnipiac.edu/academics/colleges-schools-and-departments/college-of-arts-and-sciences/departments-and-faculty/department-of-history/about-our-faculty/history-faculty/faculty-detail/?School=LA&Dept=HS&Person=2999&Major=</a> would also be a great contact person with specific questions.

During our Admitted Student Day program in late March we have an honors program information meet and greet where they go over the specifics of the program, the culture, and also have current students from the program talk about it.

Let me know if you have any other questions with it and I will get an answer for you!

Thank you Paul! That helps a lot!

hi Paul or anyone else I could answer this question… my D did end up applying to the Honors Program I was wondering when they started sending out acceptances… since there will be a special meet and greet in acceptance student day it should be soon right?

Should be soon, as long as it was filed before the deadline notification as I understand will be before admitted student days so invited students can join the reception. The reception is a really great experience, definitely plan on attending!

hey Paul just thought you might like to hear the update. D got into the Honors Program and she also committed last week to coming. we are so excited! turned down 10 other direct entry nursing programs in favor of Quinnipiac.

Hi @cakeisgreat that’s great news! Glad to hear of the honors program acceptance and I am excited about her joining our community! If either of you have any questions or need anything in the future please don’t hesitate to let me know!
