I applied for the Scholar program but i got letter today saying i have been invited to the Honors Programs… Should i stick with Scholars or just go for Honors? I am planning to go for a career in medicine and maybe going to major in biology. Thxs

Honors is the 'better' program.

If I enroll , it will be in Honors.

I liked:
Money- 2.400 Provost for Applicants before 12/1
Priority: I get to sign up for classes ahead of the rest of the entire school but behind the athletes (It's OSU)
I get Direct Admit to my major in Business.
Love: Advisors and mentoring for research or in case I'm faltering in my classes.

I didn't like:
The minimum 3.4 GPA to stay in. It's going to be hard work.

Scholars is a nice program too. It seems more like a learning comunity with people of similar interests saying together and taking seminars and doing trips, projects, etc.
You get priority sign up in front of your class level.
I'd enter as a Business pre-major and Fisher College told me that Scholars don't get any advantage when it comes time to apply. You do get to know the profs. and the workings at the school

That's my impression

The only reason athletes get priority is because they have insane workout schedules, and if they couldn't pick the exact time slots they needed, they'd never graduate.

I've been thinking over the two... if I go to OSU (very good chance) I'll pick Honors (accepted). A phone call from a student last night convinced me it is the right choice. The only advantage to the scholars program for my major - architecture - is housing with other arch. kids and apparently I can request a place in Baker Hall W with the other Scholars kids and still be in Honors. It's been done without trouble. I really like the idea of that....

Thxs everybody,

Yeah, i was thinking about the same thing too. Cuz i going to major in pre-med so The health Science Scholar program would be good for me. Since i can room with those scholars, i might go with the Honors program then.

But i got one question, is the Honors Housing any good? Like will it change my mind about rooming with the other Scholar Kids.. Never been to OSU so I dont really know about the housing situation...

Thxs again.

The Honors Housing situation will more than likely not change your mind. There are four Honors Houses on campus, and to be honest, they aren't that much different than the Scholars and "regular" housing. If you want to investigate, go to the website @ OSU and check out Taylor Tower (N), Lincoln House (W), Siebert and Bradley (both S). If the Scholars houses stay the same for next year, or whatever year you're applying, and you're interested in the health science program, you will be housed in Canfield Hall (S). There are a lot of differences between South, West, and North campus housing, though, so you may find out that you really don't want a corridor bath and prefer a/c, in which case, Canfield might not be the best choice.

The only thing is that some Scholars programs all live in quads. I know the PSL scholars and I believe the Biological Sciences scholars are two of such living arrangements.

While both groups have scheduling priority, Honors students schedule almost a month before Scholars. Scheduling opened this Monday; I scheduled Monday night. This is why I previously thought they had no scheduling priority.

Technically, you can be in Honors and Scholars at the same time, or at least you used to. They have changed a lot of things in this past year. But if you really want to do both, I think it's still possible.

I have a friend who is an Honors Engineering major, but she's a part of the Engineering Scholars program (and lives with them). So yeah, it's possible.

If I remember the Scholars literature correctly, I think it says you cannot do both Honors and Scholars simultaneously. I believe it indicated that Honors have their own living and learning arrangements.

But don't quote me....

When I talked to a student on the phone, he said you could not do both programs, but you could arrange Scholars housing if you were an Honors student.

Zac - maybe that's it, and then people say they are in Scholars and Honors at the same time. Again, I'm not sure, but if anyone is interested in both, they should ask.

I read that too RSquare.
