Other questions: What are the benefits of being in the honors program?
Are honors classes more difficult?
Does the honors dorm (if there is one) cost the same as a normal dorm?
Are there any monetary perks besides probably also having an AES?

You have nothing to lose by applying to this great program. I believe honors classes are not harder but may be more engaging. They max out at 25 students. No honors dorm but you can request rooming with Collegium members (the newly built freshman dorms are incredible). No monetary perks other than AES although the McDermott thread may be helpful to you.

mramadan - My son had emailed the university earlier regarding the honors program. It seems they will require a separate application. However, that application was not available until end of September.

The honors program has a separate application. It also requires a letter of recommendation (I can’t remember if 1 or 2 was required) and an essay. They start going through applications on February 1st and it fills pretty quickly.
