Did anyone go today???

I'm a Honors Program ambassador and will be at the lunch to speak to students (in about 1 hr haha), just wondering if anyone went and what they thought of it.

By the way-- if anyone else was admitted to the Honors Program and can go to another Scholar's Day (there are two more), I HIGHLY recommend it. It was what made me decide to come to Rutgers and I was not considering RU at all beforehand.

Is there any way I can get into the Honors program later in my attendance at Rutgers? I know I can't go now, but is there still a chance later?

What is it, just a tour? What exactly does everyone do? I got accepted to the program recently and didn't even know this existed until a few kids at my school were absent b/c they went. If I could've, I would've went just to get out of school...Just my luck.

Mountclimber-- you can get in after your 1st year. Freshman with a cumulative 3.8 GPA are invited to apply. You can also apply if you have lower than a 3.8, but you're not invited.

Sanosuke Sagara-- Its a whole day program. There are panels with current students to talk to prospective ones and parents, you meet the deans and some faculty, eat lunch with current students, and tour the honors housing or visit a lab. It's a really great program so I suggest you come if you can-- there are two more on 3/3 and 4/10. If for some strange reason, the HP never sent you a letter about it (you should have gotten one), call them up and ask-- they'll get you in no problem.

When did they send out the acceptances to the honors program? I qualified (1470 SAT and top 10%) yet I haven't gotten anything.

I haven't been too impressed with Rutgers organization. I would think they would want to encourage students to go there by making sure they get everything they qualified for. It kind of turns me off that I may have to call in order for them to admit me to the honors program that I obviously qualified for based on their requirements.

Dodgerblue-- take a chill pill on the attitude haha. Rutgers has like 5 trillion applicants; its not an ivy league school with only 20,000 applicants or something like that (yes these numbers are off). It's easy for things to get lost no matter how organized an office is, and if you learn anything at Rutgers, it's that you need to be proactive in life and not everything will be spoon fed to you.

That said, the honors program is great and helps you get through Rutgers without being RU Screwed. If something got messed up (or they just haven't sent your package out yet, it could have happened) call them up and chat with the dean. (http://rchonors.rutgers.edu/contact.htm) She's actually the nicest person in the world, so she'll be really helpful and she would happily talk with you about your qualms with RU. Last year, when deciding where to go, I was really unsure about RU and I talked with her. She set me up with a current student to talk to and also talked with a prof to see if i could attend an honors class. (however, now that I posted this online, hopefully 1032498 ppl don't ask for this now b/c that can't really happen)

And by the way-- sorry if that came off sounding too harsh. It really wasn't meant to. As usual, you or anyone can ask me any Qs you have about the HP or about Rutgers in general.

No, I understand where you are coming from. I didn't mean to sound like I was putting down Rutgers as a school. I just think they do a horrible job marketing themselves to students. My dad is an alum, and he has agreed with me. I applied to UT Austin and UCLA, both get a good amount more applications than Rutgers does, and they seem to do a much better job organizing everything.

It isn't as big a deal for me because I know I qualified and it will be a matter of calling and telling them I never got anything, but my point is that they should make sure they get out those invitations to everyone that does qualify. The reason they have the honors program is to try to draw more top students to the school. If I hadn't looked at this board, or read into their website, I may not have known I should have received an invitation, and would not even consider Rutgers based on that.

Rutgers advise me of the scholarship last week! Anybody please, when and how should I know if I get into the honor program?

You probably should have been notified if you haven't been already, unless you just got admitted to Rutgers recently.
