Honors program & scholar's weekend

D is an out-of-stater with good stats and is hoping to be accepted to UDel. We know the competition for the scholarships is tough. Does anyone know if the invitation-only "scholar's weekend" still exists, and if so, when invitations are extended? Seems that scholarship awards should be made before students decide where to attend prior to May 1.

Admission to the Honors Program comes with your admissions decision in March and does not require an extra visit. Scholars Weekend is by invitation only for the Eugene duPont Scholarship (full ride).

My son received his invitation to attend the scholar weekend today. It is March 14-15 includes an overnight hotel stay. Also received his acceptance to the honors program and the engineering dept.

Did your son apply for early action? the U of DE website says they don't send out decision letters until mid-march.

UwireD: Are You Connected?

"The University of Delaware starts sending out decision letters in the middle of March. We pride ourselves on carefully reviewing each of the 22,000 applications we receive.

however, my D got a letter today asking if she had any other accomplishments she wanted to make them aware of.

kind of strange. maybe that's an "on the bubble" letter and they're trying to give kids a chance to stand out.

He met the deadline (think it was Dec. 1) for scholarship and honors consideration. He has until March 3 to RSVP for the scholars weekend. The acceptance packet comes in a big blue envelope and the when you pull it out -- the folder says Congratulations w/acceptance letter glued onto the inside cover. It was a very nice presentation!

Hey, I just received my acceptance letter today too, as well as an invite to the weekend thing in March. The letter refers to it as a "competition." Does anyone know what exactly this means?

They invite the top students for interviews to compete for scholarships including full rides. I believe the letter said they invited 120 out of the 24,000that applied this year. Did you RSVP via the website yet?

Is this for all scholarships or just for the full ride?

My son got his acceptance today too, along with the Honors program and invitation to the Distinguished Scholars Weekend. I believe it's for all the named Scholarships, but you can still get merit money if you weren't one of the 120 invited to the weekend. That would come in your acceptance letter in March.

If you plan to accompany your child to Delaware, you need to make hotel reservations now. Many of the nicer hotels near the school is sold out -- think there is a women's basketball tournament that weekend.

D received her admission to honors program and invitation to scholars' weekend yesterday, and she RSVP'd immediately. She applied regular decision on Dec 1. She's going alone - they pick up at Phil. airport. Very happy! Congrats to all!

I have not heard, but did apply to the honors program. Could you let me know what your statistics are for those of you who have received acceptance letters to the honors progam?
Thanks

Yeah I would also like to know everyones stats cause I was really hoping to get invited, so this is an absolute crush to me. Rank 8/594; GPA 4.36w; 1480/2200

Stats: rank 2/566; GPA 4.48w; 1500/2200; 35 ACT, 12 AP courses

We were pleasantly surprised by the invitation!

Maybe I am too low. What do you think? I have a 30 on my ACT's and 96.2 GPA. If not honors, what being accepted in general? 5AP's and 5 honors classes in 4 years

FYI, I think you guys are confusing two different things....Honors V Scholars....Can someone clarify? Isn't it true that honors can be determined by March acceptance as well?

yeah i guess the kids who got invited for the scholars weekend automatically got into honors, but thats only 120 kids in honors. When all other decisions are mailed out, honors program acceptances will be granted at that time as well--Mid March.

Yes, I believe smoltz08 is correct. This was only for the scholars' weekend invite so they sent out the acceptances/honors early. They will send out the rest of the honors' acceptances later.

haha i love how I know all about it even though I wasn't invited! sister got invited and went. guess thats why.

Thanks for clarifying guys. Do you think I have a chance at the honors program? 96
Weighted GPA (4 honors and 6 ap's included). 30 ACT
