I only have four more days to make a decision so this is an urgent question. Does the honors program at GWU really offer advantages to those students who are participating in it? Do students tend to enjoy the honors classes or are they obscenely difficult? And is there a community among the honors students or is that not really apparent?

It depends on what you're after. The new Honors Program is a bunch of more generalized classes you're required to take freshman and sophomore year, and then one senior year. I personally enjoy it: you get a lot closer to the professors, you get certain advantages (like priority registration), and there really is a community among the honors kids. There are a lot of kinks in it right now and there's a LOT of red tape in the Honors department, but hopefully most of them should be straightened out by next year.

Most of my friends hate it (some love it). Some say it even gets in the way of their major. And honors classes are not anymore difficult than regular classes.

Don't take my word for it though:

Qwilde, can you elaborate on why your friends hate it? It would be extremely helpful to know what those participating in it think...also, are the ones who hate it in the Columbian College?

Well, it has been mentioned most feel that it interferes with their academic pursuits...and for no good reason as the classes aren't that different. They do rave about the small clases though. I feel, however, that you can find the small class setting at GW for most areas other than poli sci, international affairs, and the sciences. And to address your question about Columbian College: all the honors students I know are in Elliot. Columbian has more broader requirements than most other schools though, which may work for or against the honors program...I honestly couldn't tell you.
