Hey guys I was put on the waitlist for the honors program at Georgia tech. If I still haven't heard of any news yet, do I still have a chance of being accepted? Supposedly tmrw is when they're supposed to notify us, although I'm not sure if thats just the absolute latest day where they're notifying the rejects (and if they've already notified those accepted off the waiting list. I've been meaning to call the honors office, but I haven't had a chance).

The honors program accepts students pretty close to the deadline and then they also accept students after the end of the fall semester. If you don’t make it in this term, be sure to apply for next term.

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind. Did anyone else on the waitlist get any notification? We were supposed to hear back by today, but I haven’t gotten any emails

What are the real-world benefits of the honors program?

There are several benefits:

1) You live with the same people you take classes with. By that, I mean that since housing is all honors program students, and you have the opportunity to take honors program only sections of classes, collaborative projects and studying for tests is far easier.

2) Honors program students are generally interesting people. Most are extremely involved in campus and are generally passionate people with fun personalities.

3) Honors program housing is co-ed.

4) You have the opportunity to take interesting “special topics courses” which are small classes taught by interesting and respected faculty. This gives you an easy way to build relationships with professors and faculty that will serve you well when you need recommendation letters later for grad school or jobs.

I can’t really say anything but positives about the program. The requirements to maintain “honors program” status are very reasonable (i.e. no minimum GPA) and some of my best friends are people who I met freshman year through the honors program.
