I'm a junior, and was wondering the stats for the Honors Program acceptees for this year.

I got a 1300/2010 superscored (660 CR, 640 Math, 710 Writing)
When I went to the Accepted Students Day, however, at the Honors presentation they said “most of you scored above a 1400 on the SAT” (Math + CR). But it’s obviously possible without that. My GPA is a 3.9 UW, 4.2 W.

My son got in with a 720 CR and 770 in math.

not completely based on standardized tests. 34/1430, only got into college park scholars, not the honors college. i have about a 3.6 gpa, i’m kind of lazy and underachieving though.

If you are very active in community service, have a history of getting involved in larger-scale causes that you feel very passionately about, this also factors in to you getting selected for CP Scholars over the Honors program.

1470 or so CR + Math.
I do research in a laboratory, 3.98 UW, 4.4 weighted. Not many extracurriculars, not much community service. Got Honors.

However…S2 had 1500 (740 CR, 760 M) and got College Scholars.

My S had a 760 math and 680 verbal. However, he only had a 3.2 GPA so did not make it into any scholars/honors. It’s a shame that there isn’t a way to get it later like at other schools, especially because GPA can mean different things at different high schools. He did get into the business school though; however, he is not sure he wants business anymore.

@Ready…

Just because someone is not in the general Honors College, does not mean they can’t be an Honors student at a latter date, … some programs even take freshmen …

[UM Honors College - About -Departmental Honors](http://www.honors.umd.edu/departmentalhonors.php)

I had 770 M + 730 CR, about 4.0W, 2 years of JV sports, 2 years of clubs, and got into honors.

I got into Gemstone with these stats.

SAT: 660 CR/760 Math/650 Writing
SAT II: 800 Math IIc, 800 Chem
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.4 W

Being a Maryland resident probably helped.

I got into Gemstone.

SAT: 700 CR/790 Math/750 Writing (12 Essay)
SAT II: 800 Math IIc, 730 Chem, 720 US History
GPA: 4.00 UW, 5.6 W (our county uses a peculiar grading system)

Maryland resident.

I had a 2350 SAT (750 M 800 CR 800 W) but I haven’t met anyone who did better so dont worry. Its about more than SATs my friend got in the 1800s and he got into honors. My GPA was about 3.6 unweighted and 4.5 weighted in high school and I played varsity soccer for 3 years but I didn’t have a really outstanding application besides the SATs

@ubuntu34520: Did you receive a merit scholarship as well?

780 M, 760 R, 730 W
Didn’t get in @@

Being a transfer may have something to do with that though…

Wow. Everyone who got into honors has been getting really high SAT scores. I got dreadful scores and I got into the Honors College at UMD: CR-590 M-600 and W-690. Extra-curriculars were decent, seemed pretty average, a few leadership positions here and there, not much community service. 3.97gpa on a 4.0 scale(same on a weighted and unweighted scale). I played two years varsity sports, 1 year JV. I’m a Maryland resident; perhaps that gave me a few bonus points.

I got 1450 (770 M, 680 CR), 3.88uw, 4.61 wgpa. I didn’t elect gemstone – I couldn’t bring myself to voluntarily elect a group project even though it’s prestigious. I also didn’t elect the other honors options – I wasn’t that sure what they were about. So, just the university honors thing.

Does anyone think that I have a chance at honors (or maybe scholars)? Maryland resident.
-3.9 UW 4.6 W (All weighted classes besides general requirements, 8 AP’s total)
-1340 (740 M 600 CR) / 2040
-Good EC’s / Leadership experience / Some community service relating to NHS/SNHS / Internship (in CS) / Job / Gymnast for 13 years (9 year in competitive gymnastics) 20+ hr/week until junior year

My CR score is really what has me worried and I feel like that could keep me from being accepted into honors.
Thanks!

TotalCollapse- I’m confused about your situation. Are you attending UMD in the fall? If so, then you would have received notice if you had gotten into honors. If you are not a senior this year you, couldn’t you retake the SATs to raise your reading score? Btw with your stats you have now I think you have a chance to get honors but it isn’t a sure thing

zman5- Thanks for your reply. I’ll be a senior in the fall. I’ve already taken the SAT’s twice and I’ll be taking them once more, but I highly doubt that I’ll be able to score higher than 620 or so on CR. I’ve done a lot of prep, but reading is just not my strength at all.
