I received the Founder's Scholarship when I got my acceptance letter, and today I just received the Distinguished BBA Scholar Scholarship and was accepted into the Cox BBA Scholar Program... has anyone heard about an Honors Program? Is there one? Have people already been notified?

The Honors Program involves taking two English courses (2301 and 2302), one honors cultural formation class, and three of your five perspective classes to be designated honors. There are a lot of really fun opportunities for honors students, and you can learn more here - [Homepage - University Honors Program - SMU](University Honors Program - SMU (Southern Methodist University))

^Unless things are going to be different this coming year from two years ago, you’ll have to take English 2305 and 2306, 2 honors cultural formations classes, and 3 honors perspectives. The classes are smaller and the professors are very good. There are occasional dinners, outtings, and meetings. My son has really enjoyed the program.

I got my invitation a week ago and I’m really excited. For those of you who have been accepted- are you going to live in Virginia/Snyder, the honors dorm?

^Actually, no. Hilltop Scholars is NOT the same as the University Honors Program. It’s actually a little bit confusing. UHP is an Honors Program that requires kind of a checklist of academic accomplishments over your 4 years at SMU, and in the end, if you finish all the requirements, you graduate with Honors.

I THINK Hilltop Scholars is more of a living-learning thing for freshman. It’s an Honors Living and Learning Community kind of thing – I THINK. I’m not sure what Hilltop Scholar freshmen do once they move on to their sophomore year and beyond. Do they go to UHP? Do they continue the Honors academics under the Hilltop Scholars name? I’m not really sure!

I have a son in the University Honors Program. I know more about that program than the Hilltop Scholars. I am certain, though, that UHP and Hilltop Scholars are not the same.

^Oh, and I forgot to answer your question about scholarships, KollegeKid.

I am pretty sure that Hilltop Scholars has nothing to do with scholarship money. It is a residential life kind of program. You live and learn with other freshman in honors dorms. You’ll even take some classes in your dorm hall. It’s an honor. And it’s a great program! But it doesn’t mean more scholarships, in and of itself, and it is not UHP.
