Honors Program

Anyone know what the time line is for this? When will decisions be made? Thanks.

I think decisions are rolling until the program is full. Apply ASAP.

You have until April to apply. Don’t know when decisions are made.

“The Honors Program sends letters of invitation to students selected for the program on a rolling basis, beginning in late February and continuing through early June. A number of the invitations typically come after May 1, the deadline for students admitted to Georgia Tech to indicate their intention to matriculate.” [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Honors Program :: FAQs](<a href=“Home Page | GT Honors Program”>Home Page | GT Honors Program)

If I recall correctly, I received my HP decision before late February so if you have been accepted, I would apply now. If not, you have to wait until you are admitted, and I would then apply promptly. I would assume they have already extended acceptances to fall admits and have a limited number of spots to fill with regular decision admits. My year, I recall people who likely would have been accepted receiving emails informing them that the program had filled its slots and was no longer taking applications. I believe there is also an opportunity to join the program after your first semester.

How do they notify you? Email or regular mail?

The decisions for HP are mailed out in batches throughout the spring up until sometime in may or june. You will get a hard copy letter inviting you to the program. They are very thorough with their admissions procedures, so it takes some time for them to read all of the applications.

I emailed my GT councilor, she said that the HP decisions would be mailed out only AFTER the RD results are out ie 18th March.

I was told I got a letter from Georgia Tech but we can’t find it. Is it possible that that missing letter could be of any value? The only thing I think it could be is a missing documents notification (I can’t/haven’t completed the FAFSA yet).

Had e-mail acceptance today from Honors Program.

congrats man!

Are there many students in both the honors and PSP? Anyone know?

From the Honors website for Fall 2010: 457 students

Overall Profile of the Georgia Tech Honors Program, Fall 2010
GT Major by College
Architecture 24 (5%)
Computing 30 (7%)
Engineering 290 (63%)
Ivan Allen 36 (8%)
Management 22 (5%)
Sciences 55 (12%)
GT President’s Scholarship Recipients 51 (11%)

Don’t know how many were/will be offered Honors for next year, e-mail said there were 2000 apps.

Anybody currently in the Honors program care to say what they like/don’t like about it? (BTW, my daughter also got emailed acceptance today from Honors Program.)

Just got an acceptance letter too! The email said that there were roughly 2,000 applications. Do you know how many people get it? Is it competitive?

Also, do honor students get some sort of “special” housing options? In other words, what are all the benefits of the program?

I believe that the housing is Perry.

what are the credentials needed to get into the honors program? i know on their FAQ site it says there arent specific ones but what did you guys have? cuz i applied to GA tech and i havent gotten an acceptance letter or honors offer either  and ive gotten one from VA tech so idk.

Well I’ve had a whole bunch of extracurriculars and showed demonstrated leadership positions in these clubs. I’ve volunteered a lot (2,000 hours +).
My SATs were 770M, 790W, and 620R.
Essays showed diversity and culture.

Didnt make it pass the SF stage for the PSP, so I was pretty excited to hear of this. Don’t know too much about the program though.

Congrats persianprincess! I know you are very excited. I just got an email, too. So, hope to meet you at Tech!

I heard that the honors program is great to accompany classes at GT, but some students that I’ve spoken to stated that it isn’t truly necessary because of the already heavy workload. But, I have the same questions that you do because I do not have a clear vision of the program.

And I made a mistake earlier, the housing is Howell not Perry.

I meant Field not Hopkins lol
