Congrats to you too
The program couldn’t hurt. I’m reading here that it’s more close-knit so I guess students can be closer to their professors…meaning, better recommendations. plus, it’s a distinction that you can put on your resume.

Sounds like I was rejected. Oh well.

I am an Honors Program student at GT.
The Honors Program at Georgia Tech is a relatively new development. It’s requirements include 2 core classes (ex. Honors Biology, Chemistry, Calculus II), and 3 seminar classes (ex. Engineering Disasters and Technology, Technology in Society, etc.). I have found the program to be an extremely selective (100) close knit group to have been a part of my freshman year. There is a living component this first year, all of the honors students live in a particular freshman dorm, which is great because there is that instant connection and bond developed. All of the students, I have found, are not only exceptionally intelligent, but also, intellectually curious and eager to learn.

Overall, I would encourage each and every one of you who have been accepted to the Honors Program here to consider it strongly, as it is a special resume bonus, as well as, a special group to call home on campus!

Moreover, there are several opportunities within the Honors program, and the directors are all extremely supportive of our goals and aspirations.

so does this mean i am out of the race for Georgia tech honors? I have a 2140 SAT and a 4.4 GPA as well as various extracurrics…

The Honors Program does not have a SAT/ACT, GPA cutoff. Instead, the department is in search of students who have demonstrated passion in some activity (multiple activities) outside of the classroom, as well as, academic excellence within the classroom.

What is the Honors dorm like?

Do they e-mail your regular e-mail or your GT e-mail?

I just got an email from Tech inviting me to the honors program! :D

Can one get into Georgia tech’s honors program after scoring great marks in his first semester or only entering freshmen can get into it ?

I just got an email from Tech inviting me to the honors program!

I, as well, have received an e-mail inviting me into the Honors program. I had a 2130 SAT composite and a 35 ACT.

Is the Honors Program invitation e-mail going only to those who have already accepted to go to GT? I am pretty sure I will go there but I have not accepted the GT offer yet.

man i still havent gotten an email yet :/. i guess i’m out of the running…

No, it isn’t. I received my email yesterday and I haven’t committed to Georgia Tech yet.

Just to give some of you hope:
710 CR, 640 M, 690 W

I got my acceptance yesterday too, but nobody else at my school did despite two of them having equally high grades, SATs and ECs. When they say “rolling,” do they mean that they accept/reject you as they come across your file or do they accept the top tier first and proceed to the lower tiers as they continue?

For stats, I got a 690 CR, 780 M, 800 W.

Hey everybody!
I am an international student and have been invited to attend the Honors Program this fall, I’m still contemplating whether or not to accept.

Could somebody please tell me what are the advantages and disadvantages of the HP?

A few upperclassmen have been telling me that the HP is really tough and just not worth it plus it mainly has classes designed for physics math and pure science majors(whereas I plan to major in ME)

Also since I don’t have any AP credit whatsoever(just have credit for Chem1310 based on my SAT II score) how tough is it going to be to manage everything?Since it’s going to be a complete change in environment for me-new country, new place, new friends, wont it be tough enough just to adjust? The added burden of HP,is just gonna make it worse-don’t you think?

Does attending the HP offer any advantage inf getting into grad school/getting a job? And can I opt out of the HP mid way through incase I find it too tough to cope with?

Thanks a lot in advance!

nkhlgeorge, I’ve heard from some people that the hp is really difficult while others have told me that it’s not that big of a deal. I guess that it mostly depends on whether or not you can handle it. Also, I think you only have to take 5 total honors classes to graduate with it, so it’s not like you have to take all the theoretical physics classes. But you will have to take a lot of physics and math for your major anyway, so it’s not like you’re doing tons of extraneous classes. And, if you do decide that you don’t want to be in it, you can indeed opt out of it. I’m not sure if you can do it in the middle of a school year, but between years is fine. You may want to check about that with the actual hp office to make sure, though, as I’m not positive.

Thanks FourthTriumvir!

Also, nkhlgeorge and anybody, you do not have to do HP your 1st year. You can decline. Even, from some PSP and current HP students now, they said that they would suggest for someone contemplating HP to not do it 1st year and get comfortable with GT, and then apply your 2nd or 3rd year (because rarely will you get turned down unless your GPA is horrendous i.e. 2.7). But, there are many students who find HP enjoyable and helpful for their 1st year, and honestly it’s truly on personal preference. HP will give you access to great peers and networking. So, whether you join it now or later, you cannot go wrong at GT!!!

is housing a requirement for the honors program??
