Honors program

Hey everyone! I am still waiting to hear back, but I was wondering if anyone who was accepted in this recent wave of notifications heard anything about the honors program, and do you have to apply for it or are you selected?

I actually called admissions to find out and they said that there are no extra steps that need to be taken to be considered for honors. Because they are still making decisions, honors invitations will be received in another month or so

Do you know if additional scholarship is offered to Honors Candidates?

I have been accepted. But they notified me of that when I was told I wasn’t a finalist for coronat.

Coronat is different from the Renee Crown Honors Program…

Coronat has scholarship $$ attached to it…Coronat is only for arts and sciences

Renee Crown does not; anyone can apply to Renee Crown at any time during their stay at Syracuse…some people are invited, others have to apply, do essays etc to be considered…it’s all on the SU website.

i know, but they offered me admission to the honors college when they told me I didn’t get that scholarship. I applied for dual enrollment at CAS and COE. I don’t know when they announce it regularly but I have definitely been offered a spot.

pfips: that makes sense…it will be formally be announced after everyone gets their decisions…I was actually responding to the OP…

The Renee Crown program is kind of weird; as in, hard to figure out who is “invited” and who is not…

Lots of kids who got the Founders Scholarship are not invited; and kids are invited who did not get scholarships…no rhyme or reason…

If you call the Renee Crown after admissions and ask them, they kind of laugh and say “anyone can apply” but the cut-off for the application is very soon…

and note: Newhouse acceptees are rarely invited to the honors program as freshman; some are invited after freshman year especially if they are in a dual enrollment with arts and sci…

rodney: there is no application to apply unless you would like to petition if you were not invited…as per my phone conversation with Syracuse today

Acceptance letters come first, and Renee Crown letter comes a few days later. Merit scholarship a few days later. That’s how it went in my son’s case.

If you don’t get into the honors program automatically, you can petition before you make your decision. Someone’s son did that last year, and got accepted into honors after the special request (follow appeal process on the SU web site).
