Honors Program?

hey, just wondering, has anyone gotten into the renee crown honors program yet? it says on their website that su applicants will hear back the 1st week in april

also, does it matter what school you got into to be selected for the honors program? i know some colleges within syracuse are more selective so are you being compared to other people from your school within syracuse for the honors program or are you competing with all incoming freshmen? thanks

'i know some colleges within syracuse are more selective so are you being compared to other people from your school within syracuse for the honors program or are you competing with all incoming freshmen?"

You are compared to other people from your school within Syracuse for the honors program, not all incoming freshman…so, for example, if you are in Newhouse, you have to be at the stratosphere for stats to be invited to honors program as an incoming freshman; you can be invited again after freshman year though and if not, you can actually do the application on the Renee Crown home page and submit while you are at SU

My son has received a letter for the honors program this week

If you are not invited to join the Honors program, and you think you are a good candidate you can apply directly. You need to call them at 315/443-2759 or send an email to honors@syr.edu.and request an application.

My son did not get invited initially and applied after he was accepted. It’s not a difficult process and it is well worth it. His experience has been very positive - outstanding professors and small class sizes (for Honors courses), plus additional advising support.

You should also know that as a freshman you will be required to live in one of the learning communities or else you will be placed on the Honors floor in one of the dorms.

I did get into the honors program, I am a bio major in Arts and Sciences :)

To build on Michael’s Mom’s points on honors. Those in the program are allowed earlier registration than general population. My son (in honors program too) is finishing his freshmen year (same dorm as M Mom’s) and has gotten his first choice on classes for this year and next fall.

You mentioned the living requirement for Honors…do you know if you already have a person that you plan on requesting however they are not in honors…can they still be your roommate on the honors floor?

Honors LC can have a mix of kids in and out of the program; that’s how my son’s floor is set up this year. His roommate (random since he’s a freshman) is not in honors.

I’m an honors freshman. It’s a great program and the Honors LC is also great. I know atleast three guys that requested nonhonors roomies and are living on the floor. It worked out really well since not everyone is honors, it’s a good mix.
