Can anyone fill me in on the Honors Program?

More specifically:

For a student concerned about the size of the University of Michigan, does the Honors Program effectively provide a smaller and more intimate community within the larger one of the university?

Does the Honors Program offer qualitatively better courses?

What is your take on the Honors Program dorm?

An alum told me that the Honors Program provides the best of two worlds: the benefits of a small liberal arts college and the opportunities of a large university. Is this true?

Thanks!

The honors college is effective at providing a subgroup within the university but it will still feel like a large university and I would not use intimate as the word to describe it.

The honors courses as a general rule are more intellectually demanding but do not have a monopoly on quality. If you are looking for a more intellectual course of study, I would recommend honors courses.

The honors housing is a major plus. South Quad is in great location and most students find the housing to be a benefit. South Quad has not been renovated yet so some of the dorms on the hill (Couzens, Alice Lloyd and MoJo) will have a more updated appearance.

If it is what you are looking for it is a nice opportunity. There is also a special advising group for the honors college.

There were some threads that posted a couple of months ago on this topic. Some of the advice was very good. One poster in particular had some detailed information that seemed to be on target. I would consider searching for these threads.
