i just received an email telling me tht i got into the honors program i dont rlly noe what this means i mean are there actual benefits/differences?

I can only tell you how it is at Muir. You don’t get any benefits in terms of early enrollment or special opportunities. However, you will have the chance to take an honors seminar. The seminar will allow you to 1) meet other honors students and 2) listen to faculty introduce their research to you. The program is primarily catered towards freshmen. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I made a few friends through it.

I believe it’s also on your transcript for extra brownie points.

@hello012 Did the honors program letter come independent of the admissions letter that you saw online? Just curious.

^Yup. They sent me a seperate email yesterday.

@Justmyview thnxx for the info;) i mean i wonder if the honors program shld b a factor to decide which college i wanna attend…

@hello012 To put it simply, I wouldn’t base my decision off of admission to UCSD’s honors program. It’s a nice program, but it’s not as substantial as say, UCI’s honors program.

@hello012 For my D The honors program is a big factor in picking a school especially in the UC system. Please check on the benefits of being in the Honors program. If it provides you with priority class registration then it is a massive benefit in the UC system as you will get the courses you want, when you want them.

For example:
UC Davis Regents Scholar Privileges and Perks
If you are selected as a Regents Scholar, you will be afforded certain privileges most other undergraduates are not.

**Priority Registration **begins your second quarter on campus. You will be allowed to register for classes before most other undergraduates regardless of your class standing.[/ul]
- Extended Library Privilege lengthens the usual library loan period from two weeks to the entire quarter. So, instead of returning or renewing your books every 14 days, you’ll have them until the end of the quarter.
- Transcript notation will be placed on your official UC Davis transcript, recording your status as a Regents Scholar.
- Integrated Studies, a residential honors program for first-year students, guarantees space to all Regents Scholars who choose to participate. The oldest such program in the UC system, this intimate community of 114 students allows highly talented and motivated students to live and study together in a supportive academic setting. Faculty Mentorship. Regents Scholars, from the beginning of their tenure, start networking and building relationships with faculty members from across campus. These relationships can lead to research assistant positions, guidance on graduate school preparation and strong letters of recommendation.
