I'm applying this fall and was just wondering what the honors program is and if im not in it now, will i be able to get in if i do well enough at unc. Does it help you both while at unc and/or when looking for work/ grad school?

If you’re not invited off the bat, I believe you can apply to be in the honors program second semester freshman year or sophomore year. I’d look into exact dates though.

You are allowed to take honors classes even if you’re not in the program (honors students just get priority registration)

As someone not in the program, but that has taken honors courses and befriended honors students, I don’t feel hindered at all, nor do I feel as if they get a little ‘extra’ help because of their title. Not like Robertsons or Moreheads, anyway.

I guess it looks good on your transcript? Not sure how much weight it would have over actual experience, GPA, etc though. This is just my perspective however, someone in the honors program might have more insight on the perks. The honors classes were not any more demanding/difficult than regular classes, though, as far as I could tell. Just smaller.
