Honors Program

So today I get a letter from USC, telling me to apply to their Freshman Honors Science Program. They say that many professors recommend me and blah blah blah.

So to cut things short, does this mean that I'm accepted? There seems to be so much ambiguous language (i.e. "You must also send your enrollment commitment deposit form to attend USC by May 1, 2006 to hold a place in the freshman class.") Also, in the Honors application, it asks whether "I am definitely going to attend USC in Fall 2006 and I want to participate in Freshman Science Honors" or "My decision about college isn't final yet, but if I come to USC, I want to participate in Freshman Science Honors." Why can't they just type in big letters "Congratulations!?!"

OMG SAME SITUATION.
I AM SO lost.

its like..

"As one of our finest incoming freshmen, you have demonstrated your academic excellence and your high ability in science..."

I AM LOST!

hmmm.the cryptic wording seems to me that you guys got in...but the acceptance packets havent arrived?? call them...you probably havent gotten the mail in the recent "waves"

somewhat full wording--

"As one of our finest incoming freshmen, you have demonstrated your academic excellence and your high ability in science. professors in the departments of biological sciencs and chemistry extend their congratulations while charging you to consider how you will contribute to the revolution in sceince during the coming critical decades."

"our porfessors intend to challenge you because they believe in you. they have asked me to advise you that your academic record and high school achievement indicate you can thrive in usc college's freshman science honors program. based on your hard work and their recommendation, it is my pleasure to invite you to apply for this special opporutnity."

"to indicate your interest, complete and return the enclosed application to the office of college honors programs, or complete the form.... blah blah. the freshmen science honors program has only 50 places, so we encourage you to act quickly.. note that you must also send your enrollment commitment deposit form to attend usc by may 1, 2006 to hold a place in the freshman class."

and the application says to indicate: 1) I am definitely going to attend USC in fall 2006 and i want to participate in freshman science honors, 2) my decision about college isn't final yet, but if I come to USC, i want to participate in freshman science honors.

well good luck everyone?
yippy.

gosh. I got this "science honor program" letter too.
So basically we have to send this "application"again...
i'm kinda confused too.

Does anyone want to call the Admissions Office? I might do it if I have time (probably not).

the application is just for the program itself, by getting the letter it means u are accepted for the program, they are just waiting to see if you'd like to attend

but does it mean you got into usC?

so the people who got the letters are actually IN the Honors Program?
does that also mean that we got into USC?

well. I got my acceptance letter in january... and I also got this science honor program letter few days ago so I wasn't as confused as you guys...
So you guys didn't get any acceptance letter thingi before this honor program letter? that's strange...

the letter sounds like..
as if we are in?

+_+
i am confuzzled.
maybe we should call USC
BUT the admin office takes FOREVEEEER to answer the call.

"twenty callers remaining... please wait...."

sigh?

you're probably in if you got accepted into fsh

im a freshman in the program right now. the classes are really small compared to the regular classes (50-60 compared to the over 100 in the regular ones). really good professors. definately join if you plan on going to usc

did you also get the letter before getting your acceptance letter?

i got my acceptance letter first

but highly doubt that you would be accepted to an honors program at a school and not the actual school itself

it doesn't make any sense

I JUST CALLED THE USC Admin Office--

the lady said.. there are about 100-150 of us who were invited to the program.
but some of us haven't received our acceptance letters.
she said that the timing wasn't right.. and was embarassed that they sent the invitations before the acceptance letters. oooopsy. lol

BUT--
most LIKELY!
we are accepted.

she said to just wait for the acceptance letters!
hooooray.

when i called, the lady said it has nothing to do w/admission to USC and you still have a chance of beong rejected. ouch.

lol i think the lady was being mean?

mm i don't know.
the lady i talked to said there was some problem with coding individual student.

im just gonna empty my mind and apply. sounds good?

iono, i am an int'l student.
in order for me to go to USC, i have to get one of the scholarships that USC offers...
i hope everything turns out nice and smooooth :D

So is this just for science kids?

I applied to engineering, nothing back from USC yet.

The thing is, the letter wants us to apply for the FSH. I don't think we can assume that we got in FSH, because if 100-150 people were invited, and only 50 slots are available, then some people are going to be rejected.

And dinosaurrawr and makemecrywhydontyou have contradicting info. Ayee! Oh well, I already sent in my application. Hopefully I can get some sort of scholarship.

By the way, is it possible to get into FSH and also get a Trustee or Presidential Scholarship?

Oh yeah. My roommate has that, no problem or conflict whatsoever.
