I would be interested in hearing what other colleges people are turning down to attend the Honors College at UF and what was the primary factor other than cost?

although D wanted to apply to a couple of ivy's, she ended up only applying ED to UF because she did not want to go anywhere cold or be that far from home. Uf is about 2 hours away.

Good question kklicker.

Thanks, GoodOldSong. I'd consider UF but there are other schools I am considering: Penn, UVa, W&M, CMU, and Stanford.

My stats are consistent with others here that got into honors. See arilmada's post above.

Is anyone else debating whether to go to the UF honors program or a more prestigous school?

Son is also considering WashU, UNC-Chapel Hill, Tulane and Rice. Visited Tulane this week and was impressed with what they had to offer but National Merit scholarship at UF is still going to be awfully hard to pass up.

A lot of people in the honors college, and pretty much EVERY National Merit Finalist, turned down one or more "more prestigious" schools to attend UF.

I'm NM, and I'm turning down everyone else to come to UF.

Will take UVA over UF Honors. I have lived in Fla my whole life and am looking forward to a change of climate for four years! Best wishes to the Gator Nation!

Im split between NYU and honors..

gatordan, where else did you apply?

Emory trying for the Emory scholars program, didn't make the finalist cut for there and no where else would even come close to money for me and since I wont go into the debt I didn't even bother applying to Northwestern or the likes which I would have been going for had money not been an issue.

alliepants and stephg88--where did you decide to go? Just looking for more honors students going to UF.

My S is going to UF. But since he is RD2, the honors decision is still pending.

IvyHopefulDad--Do you mean he qualilfies for the honors program, but he hasn't heard if he is accepted yet?

arlimada:

My son has been accepted to the honors program at UF and will be attending in the fall. Are you in state or out of state?

Arilmada:

Yes, he was invited to applied which he did a couple of days ago.

On the other hand, USF offered him Honors College with Directors' Scholarship. But gator nation is where he will thrive.

kklicker, we are in state. we are in the central florida area. how about you?

IvyhopefulDAD

How come so late for the invite? Did he have 700 M and 700 and a 4.0 ?

That makes him an automatic unless they are allowing some others choice?

Ah, I wish the choice was easy. I got into UF honors, but I really want to go to Carnegie Mellon (which I also got into). Trouble is, UF honors is free and CMU is one of the most expensive schools in the nation. I have weighed presitige and price, and still haven't come to a definitive conclusion. I think I'm just gonna suck it up and go to CMU...but that will leave me DEEP in the hole for potential med school. Ah, it's so hard. Hoping work-study will come through for CMU so that I won't end up having to seel my body on the streets of Pittsburgh.
