honors program

I am just wondering how close I was to getting into the honors program at northeastern. I assume i was close because i got a good excellence scholarship of 4500 per semester (or 9000 a year) for all four years. What kind of scholarships did you as honors program members get?

I got a $16,000 a year dean's scholarship and didn't get into the honors program.

i didn't get a financial package from Northeastern yet! I am angry @#%%^. The suspense is softly killing me =0 . JK. But seriously NEU needs to send the package, so i can make a decision on time.

The scholarship you get is based on need. They TELL you that its based on merit, but that's not really true. I got into the honors program and they only gave me $7500 a year. That's it. I thought that if I got into honors, I would get more money, so I emailed them. They weren't willing to give me any more. Friends of mine, with lower averages, and lower SAT's, who didn't get into honors got more money from the dean's scholarship. But their EFC (from the FAFSA) were lower than mine. So its based on need, somewhat. Needless to say, I'm not going.

Hmm..okay...merit scholarship is based on merit only. My son is attending this fall. He got a $16,000 per year Deans Scholarship-merit only. We did not qualify for anything on the need based side, FAFSA computed our EFC at the highest default number-$99,999. He got into the honors program. If you look at this site and other postings, as far as who got in the honors program and how much money they got it is all over the place. My theory: if you applied EA and you went to visit the school, showed interest by interviewing (he did over the phone), and they were looking to add a student from your geographic location, race, or you were in the top of the major you applied to then you probably got some merit money.
In other words, there is no set formula. So...mycanggrl with friends with lower averages and SAT's, maybe they were in a major that NU was trying to fill, or they were in a demographic that NU was trying to fill, or they applied to other schools that NU wants to be more competitive with. Probably no rhyme or reason that we can see because we are not looking at the entire pool.
Which certainly doesn't help when you really want to go somewhere but you aren't gettting enough money to be able to attend. That I do understand.

you're right that there are probably other reasons. i'm saying that it is probably MOSTLY based on merit, just not COMPLETELY. because my friends are from the same area, and applied to the same school. maybe there were other factors, though i really can't think of much. but i am fustrated with it because there is not much different between me and the other candidates.
